For my monster hunting story of The Preserve, it was mostly two things for me, Jurassic Park and sports anime/manga lol.
The first is among my fav movies of all time, the book as well, and I loved the kind of sci-fi it was trying to do. The warning. Telling us what our hubris would result in if we tampered with life and technology without respect. And from that, an idea of the ultimate extend of that idea being where we successfully have dominated that, and turned into a horror show for our entertainment.
I always wanted to write a sports drama as well, usually a sucker for anime about all of them, and the ideas simply kinda crossed together. Developing into a story where the deadliest sport was also the most watched event in the world. With anime like villains as rivals, and real stakes on commentary for entertainment has done to numb us.
Well, do check it out, the comic is a prologue to the eventual novel, and it’s already complete and introduces everything and everyone for the story! Really proud of it!
