● Summary:
Once upon a time there was a king and a grand duke. This story isn't about either of them. It's about the grand duke's son who was forgotten.
Will has been living the last several years as a servant to his father and new step-mom, and their new baby, and as a result of the amnesia of his father, everyone's been ordered not to acknowledge his position or what family he belongs to. It's resulted in him taking a beating emotionally. Until one day when Will goes out to try once more to convince his father of his identity, while picking up some of his dad's favorite pastries, he curiously stumbles into a shop that baffles him. He blacks out, and wakes up later in the day somehow returned to his bedroom and the party about to start - of which he is kidnapped away from by a young man with dark hair who claims to not only know about Will's lineage but is confused why people around them don't. It triggers a domino effect led by Will's curiousity to learn what's happened around him.
● Why should you read it ?
First off it's a long-form novel, with a slow-burn romance that isn't center-stage. Instead, the romance ends up taking a backseat as the larger mystery starts to unfold and be revealed involving parallel worlds, the mystery of life and death and the soul of a person. It's an onion story, revealing pieces as we go with an ever larger growing cast who either like each other, or want to run one another through with a magical transformitive sword - of which, might or might not be super vital to the plot. Will doesn't just end up interacting with magical items, he enters the very threshold between life and death, and meets the most feared creatures: dragons and gods.
