I've been thinking about doing something like this since my days in another webnovel website, but I never found enough novels in the same general genres as mine or anything I would like to endorse that much. However, I've found a bunch here on Tapas after just my first week, so I think this could be a good idea.

The reason why promo for promo and sub for sub is generally useless in the long run is because, in the first case, you'll usually be recommended to an audience that's not interested in your work, and, in the second, people are subbing just to get a sub back and they will rarely read or interact with your work beyond that. So, what I'm proposing is a bit more organized and would hopefully put your work in front of people that want to read it. Here's how it would work.

  1. Post a link to your work.
  2. Actively look in the thread for other works that fit with yours in terms of genre or that you think your audience might like. (Don't just sit around and wait for someone to come to you or this will go nowhere!)
  3. Once you find one, you reach out to the author and propose a promo.
  4. If the other author agrees to also give you a shout out, you set everything up (dates, whether the shout outs will be on a chapter or on your wall, etc).
  5. Do the promo!

Note: No hard feelings or drama if someone refuses to promo you. Maybe they didn't vibe with your story or maybe it contains themes they're not comfortable with. No one has to explain their tastes or trauma to you. Do be courteous and polite when asking, refusing and accepting or dealing with refusals!

I have a discord for dark and horror fantasy authors that we can use to organize ourselves, if you guys wanna join and we can do a little "spreading darkness all year round, not only on Halloween" promo tour for each other. The thread is open to any genre, however! It can serve as a hub to find both people and groups doing promos and promo tours, as I encourage you guys to gather around to organize your promo tours in other genres as well!

Tell me what you guys think and any ideas / modifications to this that you think might help us to get actual involved readers!

Leaving my novel link here as a start; it's a gothic dark / horror fantasy and I'd love to feature anything in this style.

Edit: Forgot to add warnings for my story, I'm sorry! There's some gore and violence, including slight abuse perpetuated by non-human entities that aren't aware of what they're doing. Also deals heavily with mental illness and there might be some fade-to-black sex scenes later on (het, mlm and wlw, since the characters are bisexual).

I actually really like this idea! It his difficult to get involved readers, so here is my story ^_^

It is a slowburn romance set in modern times with supernatural twists. It includes POC (mostly Japanese at this time) and LGBT+ characters.

Full Summary

Follow the journey of a boy from Shinjuku, Japan known as the infamous assassin Red Dragon. He mysteriously ends up in California in the care of the McRae family, unable to remember how he got there and unable to return to Japan.
With no where left to go he finds himself adopted by this family and even falling in love, but as he starts to piece together the gaps in his memory and the cause of his red eyes, he may soon find that his alias is more than just a name.

Will he be able to find forgiveness and allow love in?
Or is the darkness within more than just a nightmare?

This is a slowburn romance with supernatural twists. Updates every Friday.

Trigger Warning:
If you have triggers, please proceed with caution! While this is mainly a romance there will be themes of abuse (mental and physical), transphobia, racism, and PTSD. There will also be brief mentions of suic*de, but no writing of these scenes.

There will be chapters marked as mature for the reasons stated above and for mild sexual content. I will also add trigger warnings to chapters involving any of the themes above and give brief summaries for those unable to access the mature chapters.

I'm a bit surprised to see that people aren't taking to this idea. Is it because it takes a bit more effort than sub for sub (which I don't condemn, btw, I just don't think it's effective)? Has this been tried and not worked and I'm just stirring up old methods everyone is tired of? Or is there some competitive "you're not taking my readers from me" mindset that I'm not privy to and I've just committed some terrible blunder I'm not aware of? If so, I apologize.

I'm not sure. I thought it was a good idea, but I'm fairly new here so I don't have much experience in this particular forum. I know I see a lot of sub for sub topics, so maybe it could be what you mentioned. But also, it is Sunday and a holiday for a lot of people, so it may just be the fact that today is a slow day for the forums and perhaps the right audience for this topic just isn't online.

I completely forgot that it's Easter today. Let's hope this gets a bit more traction once more people are online, then!

Sure thing!

Mine's a B&W (mostly) traditional dark fantasy horror. It's pretty graphic every once in a while, so that's something to take into account if you wanna check it out.

I'll also leave a page here featuring some of the graphic stuff, if you prefer a heads up before taking a look:

Summary

Obviously this kind of stuff is quite sparse not to saturate, but still.

What I'm particularly interested in are works that rely on visuals for horror, I really enjoy seeing the disturbing elements of the story (I do also enjoy works that imply the horror, but I much rather have the big moneyshot be on screen)

If anyone is looking for something in the dark fantasy/horror genre then I am open to promote.
My novel is a gothic/cosmic horror mashup featuring literary and historical characters (ie. H.P. Lovecraft and Frankenstein's monster). It's a weird little story so if you do choose to promote then let your readers know that its not everyone's cup of tea.
Since I'm in the horror genre if feel like I should give warnings as well: features mental health issues, some gore (not a lot but in a few chapters), atheistic themes, and my strange writing style.

Glad to see you here! I'd love to feature your comic, if you're up for it. Let me know if you're up for it and how we can set it up (PM, discord, etc)!

Your writing style is wonderful, it flows so well! I was absolutely in awe, it's definitely trad published level (and then again better than some of those). Would absolutely love to feature your novel, so let me know if you want to pair up with me and how to set it up!

It can be across platforms, if creators are ok with it, sure! And comics are more than welcome. There aren't really any rules besides agreeing to promo-ing each other because, like you said, sub-genres exist and not everyone is fine with everything. So taking a look at the work and making sure it's something that you want to endorse, rather than blindly going "hey, readers, look at this!" is much better, imo.

My story has some gore and violence (including abuse by non-human entities who aren't entirely aware of the implications of what they're doing), and while it's justified and not there to shock or disgust, it's not quite as harmlessly pretty as it may appear at first glance.

This is a really good idea! I'm not a fan of sub for sub neighter and rather want a small but real audience. My comic is being redrawn at the moment though and I don't know how long it takes me to finish the nice, new pages ^^'

So if someone still feels like a crosspromo, hit me up ^^ If I like your comic but mine doesn't vibe with you, no worries, I'll still promote yours

The horror genre isn't usually my cup of tea but I'll check it out nonetheless.

My interests:
- Slow burn romance
- Adventure
- War / Fights
- Slice of life
- Character developement
- I don't care much about how "pretty" the art looks. Some of my favourites are comics with "beginner" art
- As an non-english speaker I preffere "easy-english" novels :,)

My comic focuses on character-developement and scenery. It has some action-scenes but it's mostly a slow burn romance.

Thank you! Yes, that's absolutely fine by me! If there's any specific graphic you want me to use (the cover or a banner, for example!), leave me a link and I'll use it. Is it ok to give you a banner of my character art to use to? Pretty stuff brings people in!

true, for now I just put a link in for your novel and the forum should anyone else wish to join. I have no such art to send you as I lack the discipline to sit down and draw something but if you send me a banner or cover art I'll gladly upload it as well.

I know what you mean, I don't vibe with the sub for sub either. It's better when people actually appreciate the story.

I had mine commissioned, since I can't draw at all! I'll do yours now, then, let me know if you come up with an image you'd like me to add. And thank you so much for doing this, again!

Here's the link to the banner (yes, I just put it together on canvas in 5 seconds /stares into the distance):

Beware, for the more that my novel is mostly fluff/comedy, it has serious discussions of mental health.

This i'm interested in. If anyone wants to do a promo for promo DM me!
