Historical deep dives tend to wear me out, but if I'm finding out about something painful, I'll try to balance it with finding a triumph story, or something uplifting. Sure pain and suffering are an undeniable part of our histories, but stories that give hope are important too.
Lol I feel like I've looked like an adult since I was in elementary school, on the plus, now that I'm 30 plus I feel like my appearance and age are on the same level now hahah.
Interesting characters are a big ol chunk of what maketh good stories!
Oh, I haven't watched the movie the Green Book, but I know what the Green Book is and its significance to the black community. Multiple versions of it still exist in different ways today to aid black folks in these modern times to feel more confident when traveling :). The movie seems like it got a lot of good reviews, so ayee, why not :).
Now no love for big gals, but it's all gravy for big bois sigh Imma need to refill my steam engine on that bc again that too is a whole other conversation. I will say I am ecstatic to see more body positivity and gender expression these days for both men and women, though there is still work to be done. I lose my proverbial shiitake whenever I see plus ladies in comics, anime, manga, and movies that are characters and not caricatures, comedic devices, or have their plot revolve around weight loss and self-hate, like lort.
Ughh body image and media portrayals with ridiculous standards of beauty suck the moisture out of my skin and make me an ashy sea sponge. I'm all for live ya best fantastical fantasy fictional dreams, but you know there are lots of versions of these dreams and I wanna see more than what we usually get.
Mnn yisss bring in that body diversity too hommie <3
Lol I come from the age of typing out Emoji so I know :3c hahahahah. I get made fun of by friends in their 20s about this bc they stay telling me to use the stickers, but like old habits ya know haha!
Totally fair on the sexy bit. Language is what you make of it and so many words are used differently depending on context so sometimes we just gotta say where we are coming from. I get ya :D!
LOL on the cactus city sign XD!
I read the manga for a bit bc I collected Shonen Jump as a wee lad. Faust the VIII was my boo thang red flags be danged hahaha. But what I remember from Jump, I really enjoyed Shaman King for a while. The anime remake...IDK, there was just a lot of stuff that I think I was cool with as a kid that as an adult I was like..."Git ya grown ass outta this kids park." but at the same time... "These children are doing SO much DX." But like that's shonen for ya.
It wasn't his character I had issues with. His personality and powers were cool. I was ok with most of the stereotyping bc well it was hella common back then and EVERYONE was heavy-handedly stereotyped (Gawd G-Gundam haahha) so at least it didn't feel like being singled out. It was literally the freaking black face tire lips that made me just wanna cry. It was a level of cringe I couldn't even be cute and funny about, just like the real disappointing kind bc he straight up looked like a blackface caricature and I was like..."Aren't we passed this already?!"
I've seen good-looking black people in anime as early as the 80s so I know they can and do make good-looking black folks that aren't racist caricatures, so tis why I super cringe when I see it occurring 20 years later :V.
Also, I'm glad you loved Chocolove (Gawed that Name) bc as a character he's a pretty fun guy
For sure, I'd love to see what characters you come up with
That's how I feel on the matter too heh!
