It's a double edge sword. S4S is what you will mostly see on this forum since it's the most sure fire way to boost numbers for views and subs, at least initially.
Of course, because of that, getting people who actually will read your stuff, find your story interesting, and stay subbed is very far and few between.
Thus, finding readers who legitmatley want to read your work, especially on a plateform where everyone can easily be a creator thus making an echo chamber of people who are looking to promote and build up their own work rather than enjoy the work of others (unless it REALLY appeals to them), becomes rather difficult, slow, and demorelizing for a lot of people.
TL;DR: S4S are good for an initial boost in views and subs, especially for new creators, but ultimately sucks in the long run because everyone can easily be a creator on this platform which means more people will be looking to make and promote their own work versus reading the work of others which means S4S and finding a decent sized, dedicated fanbase in general sucks. Especially for novels and comics with poor art since a majority of people like looking at pretty pictures.
