I never expected my Bright Morn of Issareth book 1 to end up turning into a series and I'm working on book III and have a title for book IV.
But I have a few readers asking me for some short stories of the character.
Here's why, I think.
The main character is of a race that lives to 200 and then is reborn via a human mother (there are no females in his race, when he dies the "mother" absorbs his essence ... no sex). He is human in every aspect until he reaches human puberty and then his other genes come into play. His human mother teaches him who he is and what he is and eventually he begins to have memories of his past lives. these are not like our memories but he actually goes somewhat catatonic and "relives" them in his mind. He is taught how to control this so it doesn't make life impossible and when he hits his 30th year the first month is spent in seclusion while he relives his last life so he knows who and what he is.
Well, my guy's had quite a few adventures being a military man and in this life a mercenary so his "memories" get rather adventurous but they are shorter and basically just enough to get you from point a to b in a fun way.
So far I haven't had any objections but what I have had is people asking me to create short stories from the adventures. I'm finishing up book III and book IV has a title and continues the story so I'm not so sure I want to do this. However, I have someone who said she'd do it and I don't want to go there because, as a pantser, I'm not sure what the actual story would be and I don't want her to introduce characters or situations that I might have to deal with at a later date changing the storyline drastically (or not, who wants to even think about the possibility!).
Also, I have included continuations of some memories in book III from book I and the same will happen in book 4 as it centers around something that happened in book one (finally, I was beginning to think that would never happen and I'd be writing this series until I was 200 myself)
I'm open to opinions as to whether I should actually spend the time doing the stories or save it until after book 4 (which I hope will be the end of the series but I'm getting the feeling it might not be.)
Part of me says yes because they're fun to do but the other says not to get distracted from the task at hand in case I lose track of it, and I find that easy to do.
