Suna was troubled by her partner once again. Kumo had somehow convinced the bane of their existence to let them have a few days off. While the baku was ecstatic, his sandman didn't even attempt to hide her unease. Sure, they may've visited the beach once or twice, but the idea of not having work to do for awhile made her jittery. The particles holding Kumo afloat felt eager to break apart at any moment. Yet Suna pushed her worries aside. She refused to ruin her companion's well-earned vacation after all.
"Susu, you've been kind of bumpy. There aren't any nightmares around, are there?" Kumo questioned while smoothing out the cracks in Suna's form. "If you need rest, I don't mind walking."
Suna considered the suggestion in silence for a moment. "Perhaps that would be best. I'm not accustomed to relaxing for this long."
"You rely way too much on that bottle, y'know," Kumo joked as they lowered to a grassy field. "It's good to stretch yourself out once in awhile."
"In that caseā" Suna grabbed Kumo and placed him on the ground before chuckling, "āI think I'll do just that. Step back a little."
Kumo did so with a confused frown. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he watched Suna fall and blend together with the earth. The baku had a feeling he'd treasure this sight for the rest of his life. He'd rarely seen her so... vulnerable. It was nice.
"Are you sure this is all you want to do on our precious time off?" he teased, plopping down next to her. "Maybe there's something fun going on nearby. We could sneak in and steal snacks like olāah."
"So that's what you do when I leave you to your devices. Yuu isn't a good influence on you, it seems. I'll have to scold you two later."
The baku shivered at her tone as it reached degrees cold enough to compete with the dead of winter. "Understood," he said while his gaze scanned the area for anything that could slice through the nervewracking tension. Soon, he spotted a barren themepark. A relieved smile spread across his face at his discovery. "H-Hey, would'ja look at thatāI think something's going on over there. I'm gonna go take a look. Be right back!"
With that, the baku dashed off before he could hear her response.
