My comic schedule is greatly influenced by other two jobs ( I work at a local, family owned, restaurant as a delivery driver and I also teach classes at the Community College) but I always make sure that I work on my comic at least one or two days a week (for about 4 - 6 hrs each day, sometimes more if Im REALLY focused). Usually I get more (if I cant sleep or if Ive got a couple of down hrs between shifts/classes) which is why I have a bit of a buffer should something ever happen that doesn't allow me to work on new pages
Example: Last year I had a house fire that destroyed everything! But because I had buffer pages scheduled for uploading on Tapastic my readers didn't experience a delay until those pages ran out. The fire occurred on May 12th but the "Project on hold" place holder page didn't have to go up until June 11th ( 4 pages later ) and regular updates resumed on July 9th.
Obviously not all life events are quite this sever or serious but being able of build up the pages that are ready allows you to prepare in case something does come up. Things like : going out of town for a graduation, visiting family or friends who don't live nearby, going on a short (week or two) vacation, or illness that keep you bedridden.
I currently am staying ahead of my release date by about 3 updates. I love having this extra time because it means I can take extra time on my pages so that I don't have to feel rushed and I have time to rework or even completely redraw sections I don't like.
