Self Conscious about my art

Well to be honest here, the only reason the story is as sizeable as it is, comes from lots of reading of other authors works and different mythologies and taking inspiration from them. The main inspiration for me was the Skulduggery Pleasant series, which has a similar base to what I am working towards. I would never steal key events or characters straight from another's work, but I might use some of their storytelling techniques if it works with the story I am aiming for.

I do the same with a short story I made. It came from an rpg game. I took the structure of the story and altered it into a narrative that was completely different from the game. I never finished playing it, I only took the concept.
But I guess with visual stories like comics it's different because people could compare your art to other artists they percieve have similarities in your style. So some of them, rather than focusing on the story, would end up comparing your drawings. (I get this kind of response from some of my friends but everyone has different opinions)
I dunno, maybe I'm just paranoid. I need my tinfoil hat.

If you have a spare one, I could really use it. I am not getting the story I spent the best part of two years on and off working on nicked out of my head.

I have so many stories that I have written in the past and I squashed them because I thought that they weren't good enough. I feel like if I didn't compare myself so much to others back then; maybe those stories could have been something great today.

I look back at it now as as lesson and learning curve. I just have to be confident in my work and continue on to get better. I try not to compare myself to others anymore, I mean there are a lot of talent artists out there but come on people not everyone is perfect.

Yes. I get self conscious about my art work when I see the art work from other creators and I love feeling this way. It lets me know that not only is visible evidence in front of me that shows higher levels to reach, but the fact that I feel uneasy let's me know that my instincts agree with my sight.

Hmm I think it depends on how you look at it, if you feel like "I'll never reach this level" or "my art sucks" then it's better to focus on your own art and try to improve it or maybe to use it as a motivation to do your best, doesn't have to be the same level of skills

It also takes time to improve your art, but using references + tutorials helps you get there faster, and you'll start to understand how to draw more consistently
