Self-promotion, works or not?

Yes, I was wondering about the tag limit on tumblr! I'd heard only the first 8 or so actually get precedence in search results? But this was a couple years ago, it may be different now. I'm definitely going to try more specific tags. It's surprisingly difficult cutting down from such general terms.

Self promotion just takes as much effort as doing art itself. That's what I realized recently. And would really take a long time to gain an audience. So patience is a must. Even though you're shouting to the void, just keep shouting, someone will eventually hear you. Also, you really need to engage in communities tho I still find it difficult sometimes since I'm not exactly those sociable types.

I personally feel that I'm holding back in Self-promotion because I don't want people to think I'm too spammy but I think I should be a little aggresive when it comes to promoting my webcomic.

I won't force you if you don't like using twitter. I didn't understand how to use twitter not long ago until I tried it myself and now I use it more frequently than any other social media. I love how I can easily communicate with fellow creators there. I love #webcomicchat although I can't partcipate in the European ones since it's sleeping time in our place.

I share these feels but I always try to take note of the context and check whether it's appropriate to advertise. As long as you don't come across as desperate for attention and aren't trying to forcing everyone to look, most peeps will check things out on their own.

On these forums I get the vibe that self promos are a natural occurrence here but on other places like Reddit, the mere hint of it can get you crucified pretty quickly depending on the sub.

Yes, self-promotion does work, but it depends on how you go about doing it. Social media is very effective in my experience, just try not to be too spammy or else people will ignore your posts...Also, I found that subtle promotion helps too. It basically means just having a link in your forum and email signature, on your site profiles and such. Getting your link out to as many places as possible with seeming like a spam bot seems ideal.

I guess everyone want to limit their posts because people might think their spammers.However on some sites it can't be enough or it doesn't bother people.

I keep my social media limited for a reason. I have a very busy job . But I think I heard the #comictalk is elsewhere as well. I can't remember where tho. Maybe I got it wrong :B

And to reach more people here at Tapastic, do not forget to link your webcomic at your "quick forum" profile (i mean when you click on somebody's' avatar).

For example if i click on @Silerna's I can see this:

But if i do on @AnnaLandin I see this:

And that's because in your profile's preferences you link your webcomic in "About me" and not only in "Web site"

That's strange! I got my comic linked on the forum..at least my settings say so.

Yep. But the preview of the avatars doesn't show directly the fields 'Location' and 'Web site' even if they were filed.

Try to link your webcomic at the beginning of 'About me'. The preview, in your case and right now, only shows until "I love to read manga and...", and if you put the link at the end, it won't be shown
