I feel like I've really been losing activity on my comic for a long time now. so instead of making it seem like I want people to feel bad for me, I'll just promote my comic on here (again). sorry, I'm just kinda desperate... if you're gonna subscribe to it, please don't be one of those people who unsubscribes right away. I'm just looking for people who'd actually be interested

(also, from now on I'd rather just have replies from people who haven't actually seen it. this is just self promotion, nothing else)

I think this comment in particular from the thread you made about a month ago had a lot of wisdom to it:

The way that you update is more or less fine as far as PC readers go (especially the banner at the bottom informing people that it updates fridays ) but! It's not a good way that promotes more activity (if that's what you're aiming for). As is, regardless of how many times you update the episdoe, people can only "view" it once, like it once, and are unlikely to leave several comments in the same comment section. If the 3 updates had been posted separately you might have 3x all of those numbers. And most importantly "you're not gaining new eyes because you're not appearing in the fresh section".

That said! I feel like this method could still be effective, but you'd have to be much more aggressive with your external advertising xD I'd be plastering links all over places like reddit/social media each week when your comic updates and what not (which is a good thing to do regardless, but especially for this update style). And the occasional promo thread like this on the forums doesn't hurt either

Anyhoo, I'm a big fan of MM, can't wait for the next update~

Actually reading @Rhonder 's reply, it occures to me that the way you're updating probably puts you at a huge disadvantage from getting into trending, which is one of the more visible places for a smaller comic.

@Rhonder @SleepingPoppy again with the update thing, I don't want to update individual pages because it would be too much to keep up with. plus, I don't have time to make more weekly content

Yeah, I know you have your reasons for doing it your way. It's just kind of unfortunate it likely creates bigger obstacles for you than other comics have. Especially when you have something really cool to offer. Not trying to be a bother, though. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Too much to keep up with for you or for readers? Generally speaking (at least on Tapas where smaller updates are more accepted than webtoons) I don't think most readers would mind.

The suggestion also isn't to make more content per week, but rather to just post the content you already make separately As is you put out like 4-5 high quality panels each week which is roughly the same as most "page-a-week" content creators. 'Tis hard to do more than that with other responsibilities (work/school/etc.)

Again though, you certainly don't have to change how you upload. It might be worth trying it out for a month or so and seeing if anything changes, though~

@ghostieblu it means a lot to you. You definitely should do what makes you happy because it is your comic and it is your time invested in this project. But also, if you can be more flexible in some areas to gain something important (like reaching more readers), then it is worth trying. I was so anxious about getting rid of a text that I really wanted to have in the first page, but people kept telling me that they felt discouraged and bored, I had to learn to be like Elsa and "Let it go!". I also had to change from chapter update to post separate pages, readers like it and I get occasional visits from the fresh section. The numbers don't even go up that much, but is better than being "invisible".
If you definitely don't like the separate pages update you could try to bring more fans from social media, make a contest or a cross promotion. Your comic is great!

@SleepingPoppy Hi I'm painfully unaware of some parts of the webcomics world. What are the bookmarks for? What's the advantage of using them?.

The bookmark is how you subscribe to a comic! So normally when a comic is updated, everyone sees in their library that the comic we follow updated. But instead of posting a new update ghostieblu edits the existing episode to add content. When you edit your existing page, you can still choose to let your subscribers know you made a change, BUT only people on the website get this alert.

new page/episode => everyone gets an update
edited page/episode=> only web users get an update

I was kind of using bookmark/library interchangeably in the original comment, I think. But I hope that's clearer for you now?

TBH I unsubscribed cause I just couldn't take the edits over updates. I'm almost strictly reading on mobile, and it was really confusing me because I don't get the notifications for the edits and when a new update came out it made no sense because I was essentially missing everything. If you don't like page updates, I think I'd personally prefer just waiting and when an update is out it be the WHOLE chap/epsiode. But that's me, and it's your comic, so you do what you want, but that's my reason for leaving. I figure I'll just come back to it one day when you're reaching your end and read it in one go.

I changed my updating style to a way that's mobile friendly now, in case you're interested in giving it another look @beta1042
