I hate comic conventions. They are expensive to table and people there don't even buy original comics.
Most of the time when I go to conventions people only buy stupid fan art. I honestly think selling fan art at conventions shouldn't be allowed. It makes it harder for people that are trying to do something original.
I also hate cosplay. People also spend more time taking pictures of cosplay than buying comics. I hate people that make deadpool costumes and have a speaker hooked up to them and they are just blasting music as they walk around. Their annoying yet people are more interested in them than original comics.
I hate the "celebrities" that have lines for autographs. Especially when their big accomplishment was they were an extra in a horror movie or something.
It's also I'm not a good sales person and I hate having to talk up my comics. I can do it, I've worked customer service for years, it just makes me feel fake. I could turn on that fakeness and sell art supplies or donuts or etc, but I hate doing it for my comics.
What sucks is that conventions is one of the only ways to get people to notice your work (besides internet but that hasn't worked that well for me either). I think conventions for exhibitors should cost way less. I mean it's $300 for the alternative press expo, smaller conventions are $100. Last convention I sold one graphic novel at 10 bucks. Plus you lose like 8-16 hours of your weekend.
So yeah, maybe I'm salty but seriously comic conventions are terrible and they're not even about comics anymore.
