âYouâre asking for my life,â Oliver said with a widening smirk. âSurely you didnât expect me to join you without asking for something in return.â
Relias glanced dubiously at me. âI have a few gold coins,â I confessed slowly. âThough I had been saving them for possible emergencies encountered on our travelsâŚâ
âSurely the decorated high priest would not pass along his debts to his humble companion.â Oliver glanced meaningfully at the gold signet ring on Reliasâs right hand.
In discernable disgust, Relias pulled off his ring and set it on the table with a clatter.
Oliver leaned down with a thoughtful look. âMy, itâs quite tiny, isnât it?â
âJust what are you implying?!â Relias shouted.
âIâm implying that this isnât enough compensation. What else could I have possibly meant?â
With an angry sneer, Relias removed the Star of Euphridia from around his neck. âWell? What say you now?â
âWhatâs your staff made out of?â
âMy staff is off limits!â Relias bellowed.
Oliverâs eyes widened with mock innocence. âWell, of course it is, seeing as youâre a priest. I was merely curiousâŚâ
Relias turned on his heels angrily. âRaelynn, it is obvious to me that this⌠this⌠despicable dark mage is wasting our precious time!â
