Silkie pulled back, her serpentine body in the shape of an S as she stared at him, almost bummed out she couldnât go with him. âWhen will you be back?â she asked, pouting.
âLater,â Ash said flatly, making it clear he wouldnât hear any argument from the girl. Not that she had many to give; she enjoyed staying at the family home. What she didnât enjoy was being separated from Ash.
With a soft growl, Silkie slid from his arms, shifting into her human form, glaring up at him with her lower lip jutting out, her small fists on her hips. Alice had to hide her smile behind her hand, taking in just how much like a younger version of Ash she looked in that moment.
âCome home soon,â she commanded, her little voice firm and defiant.
Ash smiled down at her, ruffling her white and blue hair. âI promise, Iâll be home before the sun sets.â
âSwear it.â
Ash did his best to stifle the heavy sigh that was forcing its way through his chest. Why did you have to teach her that? He demanded of Coby. All his husband did was chuckle, a wave that warmed Ashâs soul.
