Shares on social networks: which one counts?

I've started sharing every episode of my comic on Twitter. But today I noticed that Episode performance don't count them, only two episodes were shared (one episode 3 times and 1 episode 1 time) and these are not mine. Tried to share it to Pinterest and Tumblr, still nothing. So how does it work and do any shares contribute to ratings?

In my experience, Twitter, Tumblr and of Instragram are musts. They are THE places to go for getting webcomics out there.

For me Instagram has more engagements. Rarely Tumblr and Twitter does is for me or I dunno if it's getting anywhere

I've noticed this too when I share mine. Since I don't think accounts are linked, I'm not sure why the shares don't count. So I'm also very curious if they contribute to ratings in any way other than just being noted as a stat or if there's an actual effect beyond marketing.

I only have 1 episode with shares listed under the stats, 27 of them. I know for a fact that's the episode one of my family members shared on FB to help promote my comic so that's where the shares came from, but I have no idea what those people actually did/clicked to get it to register xD I post links to my comic all over social media and those never seem to register.

Are you using any kind of hashtags like #webcomics or #indiecomics ? They do broaden the distance those tweets have.

I try to retweet comics i recognize from tapas if i see them.

I posts on my site on Sundays and Wordpress takes care of posting to twitter, then I got a retweet or two, and thats it.
Then I publish, here, webtoons and Intagram on Monday, but the response is so random...

Good thing is that I'm just starting up, so when I finally get to have tons of followers way than the road, I'd be when my art gets a little bit decent.

Just to ask a follow up question, I believe the OP was asking about what makes the share stat go up on the dashboard (or what "counts" for those), no?

Most of the replies beyond mine and @HGohwell seem to be about the nuances of promotion but I'm not sure that's what this thread was about

I really wonder how this works looking at this 27 shares! xD

I think the staff or someone else has mentioned that the sharing button doesnt work all that great (been awhile since a topic like this was brought up) or that it doesnt keep track when the original creator shares their comic on social media.

Also sometimes people might just click the address copy paste as a method of sharing which would not count towards your stats.

My friends tried it too (we were testing it on first page yesterday), but it still didn't count! It makes these 3 shares of one particular episode even more strange

lol, true, totally misguided, I read the original post and then the replies, and then forgot the initial question and replied based on previous post.

I just shared my comic to tumblr (using the social buttons on the comic), went there and clicked on the link and it was not registered, so how it works, remains a mystery to me.
