Should I start a comic? How is my style?

Hey there, first time posting here.

I'm considering starting a comic strip series but have some doubts. My biggest concerns being "is it worth the effort" and "will anyone care?"

I just see so much content and competition out there and feel my work may get surpassed/overlooked.

I have quite a few little stories/plots I'd really like to bring to life and feel my style would appeal to others - I'd love your sincere opinion.

If you have a story to tell, just do it The thing is, you never know if there will be any readers, but most likely there will be someone. Especially if you want to do short strips and will update frequently. You have a good enough following on Insta!
What I do recommend though, is not to make the comic with a pencil, readers will definitely prefer more polished (or at least more readable) art. So a black pen and good scans will definitely be better, if you are not drawing digitally.

Yes you should start a comic whether or not I personally am interested in your style. YOu have a story to tell? get to it

If you do it in this style, I think some people will like it. Anime, though, tends to do better. But follow your heart! Comics are too much work to do if you're not passionate about your project. Even if you are successful, the money isn't great.

I will say just do it for yourself before you have any notion of doing it for other people. You have to be able to enjoy what you’re doing in the first place and want to do it for yourself before you see the level of success you might be looking for. And for a lot of folks it takes several projects and attempts so it’s grueling if you’re just doing it to please other people. It will get overlooked for a while before you gain any sort of audience. It’s usually a pretty slow crawl that takes people years if they’re successful but most people don’t even make it that far.

I will also say the most popular webcomics aren’t actually in anime styles at all. There are webcomics with follower counts in the millions they’re just not usually hanging out on sites like these or webtoons where they TEND to be anime leaning. There is also a lot of money that COULD be made but, again, it’s a long process and you really have to know how to play the game.

No matter how many efforts we make, there is always another that competes with you or out best you but why should that matter.

We love looking at new contents.

If you have a story to tell then, just do it.

I too am wondering if my comics are worth it back then but when I want to make a story out of my comic I said "Screw it, I'm doing it anyway" Because I am heavily invested on my comic and want everyone to see and read it.

You never know if people will "care" if you don't start it, so just do it, as long as it makes you happy.

It's very hard to host your own webcomic these days and get very popular unless you're also on Webtoon or Tapas. There's just so much competition, so hard to bring people to your site.

It’s definitely super hard. I don’t even really host my own site for comics really. But even after having done a featured comic for Webtoon I’ve made most of my money doing work for other sites that I can keep my rights for, selling the print versions of the comics I have online, merch sales, (and other things I’m not sure if I can talk about publicly yet)!

Most people I know who have big followings (1mil+) and make a lot of money were doing it before tapas or webtoons. I think those platforms have really done a number to trick people into thinking there’s only one or two ways in. I do think they’re immensely helpful for folks for sure but it’s not the only answer.

But it’s always been hard to direct people to a personal site and borderline impossible now and I do think these platforms have provided a valuable asset for folks.

If you're creating a comic just for the purpose of creating a comic, it may not end up being that good, regardless of your style.

If you have a story to tell, the style won't matter at all.

If you are asking whether you should start a comic, do it. It will be a learning experience and you will be fulfilling your dreams at the same time. If you have even just an inkling of desire to make a comic, latch onto it and build it up. It will just keep getting stronger.

With regards to style, I believe that everyone has an art style. However, until you share that style with the world, you don't know who it will appeal to. It's always best to put it out there and see who gravitates toward it rather than hiding it away and ensuring that no one gravitates toward it.
