So the issue with the pattern is about 4 parts. First part is the button type is a harder one to sew on. As a result, I'd like to use a big 4 hole button, but that will admittedly be harder to match.
The next part os the button was matched by making it with a button maker that I don't have anyway. Next big problem is the construction. As you can see in this picture:
Its a basic seam when it needs a surfer or bias tape. But the bias tape would only be 1/4 of an inch wide to make it work and that's very hard for a beginner. It's give this about 5 washes before we have issues. Also because of the TYPE of fabric, it really needs iron on fabric interfacing to make it stand up well. There is fabric I can get, but it costs more and I can only charge $20 per child for class fee. Going to the little loop... the main problem there is the size. It starts off at an inch wide.
Then you fold the two sides to the middle and iron it so it creases, bringing it to half an inch wide. then fold it over agian so the folds sides meet, iron and pin the 1/4" wide piece and then sew it together. I had trouble and I'm good at sewing.
So I need to find an inexpensive way to improve it's standing strength, widen the strap without it causing an issue with being able to hook on the button, and fix the hem. The last one I have figured out. I'm going to have to make the pattern bigger and THEN have the kids double fold the sides to prevent fraying and then continue as normal... probably not cutting off those corners shown here and sewing to pin them to the side to add more structural integrity.

.....sorry you asked a teacher what needed to be fixed on a class project. We can be as bad as artist pointing out flaws in the work.
