He needs water to transform into whale, taking a long bath could partially transform him into merman-like being. His people also have some degree of hydrokinesis, regen, and hold their breath for 90 minutes.

Nice so he really need water then and partial merman-like concept is awesome, always fun how our character mechanics in our stories can allow other sub-themes eg. Merman in your case, and Raffa' s gas/vapor ability allowed for lycan theme

Yep the gods is the twist in sickboy, in Season 1 readers are tricked to assume it was just a biological experiment but the next season with Crimson Panda and wrestlers the gods theme becomes more apparent.
Humans tried to recreate the gods technology of frequency but at a cost -the outbreak element.

In 2d I make the tattoo designs on a seperate file and then import onto character with multiply, to save time redrawing aka recycling XD. Guessing if you find inspiration to do a tattooed chara, it can be used to hint or say additional things about their personality maybe? You do lots of intricate designs so you'll totally kick butt if you decide to do tattoos too
For the muscle 2d drawings the only challenge is maybe having to round off the flat tattoo design to match the character defiition, although i've seen em left flat in anime (prolly to save time).

Procreate is a very nice tool. I've used the free version for years now, and it's good enough, definitely. Regarding the drawings, I struggle with the faces, and I plan to skip drawing them for the moment, focusing more on the moody and bigger-perspective drawings (where faces are 'in the dark'). To draw these three faces, I needed a lot of inspiration, like some photos, even ai-generated images of faces, to be able then to recreate it in my style, by myself. Meh. But the moody drawing I enjoy creating <3

Nice did'nt know it was free and glad to hear that version is good might check out procreate some time then, used Corel Painter in past had got it on a Humble Bundle software sale for around $20 bucks some years ago. Don't worry those faces look photoreal so your hard work at them paying off, and you'll find yourself needing less referance as you make more and more overtime but yep focussing on the bigger perspective sounds cool too expecially for your comic and novel I'd imagine​ You meant scene-type artworks right?
Yea no worries, refereaces are normal thing for artists, expecially when time is short too and to quickly put yourself in mood, thanks to referance gathering, I think I've developed a wierd habit now of saving screenshots from movies with dramatic lighting and fashion 🤣

Comfortable with gloomy moody colors but vibrant colors is one that takes me a while to figure out so TG for color palette referances for inspirations too. Yes most welcome and keep it up​
A combo of Blender and Daz, use a combo of original meshes but Daz comes with handy assets already like a Tshirt and pants and generic human base etc. so take them over to blender and modify those there to save time: redesign clothing, add unique features to human base, repaint etc. Been dabbling in Unreal also midway transitioning from Daz to Unreal. Been focussed more on 3d these days as my comic is 3d, thought it was a better fit for the creepy video-gamey atmosphere vs my usual 2d cartoony style​
Both Daz and Unreal have some handy tools like cloth simulation (usu reccomend daz to my 2d friends too, it free and great way to set up action pose referances, figure out lighting setups and dynamic cloth referances, may have to check if your computer can handle the specs)

This one of the boys frm Sickboy tall n lean cyclist, had paused on him for a while but this week and idea hit me to make some reflector armbands (for a dash of green) so finished him up!

Had fun drawing a bunch of decals on him, including this in-series fictional fast food joint- couldnt decide if it should be a burger or a pizza place so best of both worlds:

Whoa, so your 3D is very nice, and I can only imagine how much work it is to not only come up with the characters and all the details but then to actually do it.
I get you about collecting screenshots. Let's say it honestly - I am gathering everything that could be an inspiration, including also a lot of stuff (like: glass things that reflect light, colorful pieces of whatever; haha, basically whatever looks intriguing I have somewhere around my desk).
About drawing faces - I think I rely too much on my references; this is why they look 'photoreal' because they are mine, but I think not mine. So I'll skip it. What I drew and am most proud of are these kinds of sketches of faces:

Also, the moody drawings in black and white are of this kind - and it's my favorite for now.

However, I used to draw colorful botanicals, so I don't know for how long I'll be able to stick to B&W haha.

A terrible chill gripped his spine as horns erupted from the tips of his wings sharp, curved, predatory. His transformation was not just physical but spiritual, tearing away the essence of what had once made him who he was. The agony was unbearable; it felt as if his very soul were being torn apart. He could feel his divine form slipping away, replaced by something darker, something alien. A scream tore from his throat, a primal wail of anguish, echoing through the endless expanse of the Abyss.
As the pain intensified, Abaddon felt the weight of his new form solidify around him. His once-fluid, ethereal essence hardened into something heavy, corporeal, and suffocating. The weight of his new body felt foreign, unnatural. His limbs grew massive, and the air itself seemed to push back against his newfound gravity. It was as if the Abyss itself had claimed him, pulling him down into its depths, and in the process, reshaping him into something else.
It was then that the full realization of his transformation struck him. His divine light had been consumed, and in its place, he stood no longer a Seraphim, but a harbinger of the Abyss. Please tell me more about Raffa and lycan subthemes.
I agree, it's so interesting to make some animal subthemes for the character.
"Taylor" particularly also have deer subtheme, his real name have something to do with it. "Tiffany" subtheme being a hare.

Recycling chibi

I get it, sometimes a you like a drawing just so much to make few different versions of it. I do it too.
I think it would be great to recycle it into something like official/main chibi. That one looks nice.

Still in early brainstorming phase for this guy, but this is Otis Herrans! He used to be a scientist working on a BIG project involving a magical stone until a HUGE accident that involved the stone exploding and affecting the entire planet. Thinking that his wife and son could never look at him in the eye again because of the incident, he ran away.

Now a miserable drunk fisherman, he blames his problems on the tech company that decided to make him work on the project, and proceeds to plan out his revenge!
