Not quite the same situation (especially since I'm a novelist) but for years I was writing while on the train since that was when I had the most time and normally wouldn't be bothered. It wasn't that great either especially since I couldn't take one of these ventilators for the notebook with me so it always started to grow warm after a while. That ruined one perfectly good notebook after a while

I work traditionally but for years I just worked on the floor or in bed because I didn’t have a space to work in and it killed my back.

It became really hard to continue that way and I realized I coulda just been working at the library the whole time so I started doing that!

i mean, theres some people who prefer drawing away from a desk, so youre winning from a certain perspective

personally, i have never bought a desk, but have two makeshift ones in my small room at my dad's house. one is made from a plank of spare wood hammered onto the beams of my bunkbed, and the other is another plank across some storage space. sometimes u jus gotta get creative and adapt your living space to meet your needs any way you can - and it can turn out better that way, because its personalised

for a long while i didnt have any desk space to work - i would use my laptop in bed and keep my tablet on my knees. it made doing art homework really hard, as id have to do it all on the floor - and i did NOT have a lot of floorspace. things arent perfect now, one of the desks is entirely the wrong height and really narrow, but i make it work

when i go to uni next month though, itll be my first time with a Proper Desk. its got a round bit where u sit and sooooooooo much space. im salivating just thinking about it (but also, i cant cover it in paint and scalpel marks if i wanna keep my deposit :U )

I had to use the graphics tablet on my lap during a weekend where my PC was getting repaired, and I was sore until tuesday. Safety first guys, poor drawing position can REALLY harm you in the long run, from back problems to far nastier things that stop being reversible very early on without physiotherapy. Even hard pillows or cardboard can help a little if you can't afford good working space.

My desktop computer is on my kitchen table because I can't afford to buy more furniture. Student life whuu.

It's a bit difficult to use because I can't have the keyboard close to the tablet, so using short keys is a bit hard but I can manage. Not the worst situation I've lived in. If I want to draw traditional art I just sit on the bed and draw there because the desktop computer takes up all the space on the table. I've also gotten very used to painting on the floor.

Ahh, to be able to buy a proper desk. With a lamp! And a soft chair!!! That is the dream life!

I used to draw on the floor or in the bed a lot and I had to hold my tablet on my lap because of lack of space on the desk. I used to have a PC with a big ass crt monitor, which was good, but the thing was so big and so freaking heavy... XD When I switched to laptops I gained lots of space to draw.

Until moving out of father's house, I had perfect conditions to work but since then I've been living in a dorm. In the room I've had for three years now we only have a square table big enough for two people to sit and eat. I don't want my roommate to feel uncomfortable with me using all this space (laptop and tablet take all of it) so I work on my bed. Laptop is placed on laptop table, but tablet is on my lap. Since working on computer often causes back pain, I'm in half sitting, half lying position with tons of pillows and plushies helping to avoid the pain (that often makes me fall asleep during work, lol). But then I need to place notebook with notes and storyboard somewhere, so I use a chair that's always next to the bed... Well, that might be a little messy ^^

When doing traditional art, I also make sketches and lineart on bed, but the rest I try to do on table since the light is better there.

I have a large solid wood dining table in my living room.
I have 2 coffee table in my couch corner.
I have a large coffee table in my TV room
I have a dining table and a small glass coffee table and a children table outside in my conservatory.
I have a kitchen table and a dining table in my kitchen.
I have 3 workbenches in my garage.
My 2 children have a table for homework in each of their rooms.
I am reconstructing an entire hobby room and an office in my second part of my house.

I do my comic on my phone I the train.

And I do invite you to my house and lent you the workspace.

I literally sat or lay around on the floor or plastic couch because I don't have table lol. I previously only have phone to draw, but even after I have iPad, I still can't afford a table. XD

I have a table... and the edge of the table by the sink so more half-way in the sink... Or I can go into my sewing room and move all of my sewing stuff and use that.... Honestly I use the floor. I do have a piece of wood that's designed to be a lap table that I use.

It looks kind of like this but no handles and no folds.

I did splurge and get a folding table at Costco at christmas last year and I use it daily!

It was super affordable!

I do miss the table I used at college. It was a single flat coffee table that was the perfect height when I was typing or drawing from the floor but my house now is too small for something like that sadly.

until last week when I moved into my collage dorm which has a table and chair(very rocky and still kinda scares me) I drew on my bed with my legs crossed as well. I pretty much rested the tablet on it's box to keep it stable. Drawing with a table is pretty weird.

I use to work on my intuos on my recliner in the living room. Then moved to the living chair in my room woth 3 pillows once I got my cintique with the laptop on the hamper. Leveled up to kitchen counter that is too high so I have to tilt my tablet with either dumbbells under the legs or wedge it with a board game box.

Artist gotta be creative.

The tv in my room is on a block of wood so it's the right height for my head when I use it as a monitor.

That reminds me that in college I used a butterfly-chair (fancy folding chair that goes down to 1ft wide), and an end table for my laptop hahahaha Space saving solutions!

Well, there isn't a lot of room in my apartment, but I could afford and fit a desk in here if I really wanted to. For work, when I work at home, I use my kitchen table and have my extra monitor on there. For comics, I have my laptop on my living room table (and my husband has his desktop over here too so we sit side-by-side). I sit on the couch and have my tablet on my lap when I draw. It's pretty comfortable and I like it.

When we have a house, I'll probably try and get a real desk at least for when I work from home, but idunno. I really like our set up here in the living room.

I hope your situation will improve in a near future. Even if it's not very quick, little by little you may be able to get the workstation you're dreaming of. Did you look into 2d hand desks? Sometimes there are even some given for free. Now I can imagine you may also have a space problem and need to move or other things.. I hope that will improve fast!

I have an old cheap desk that does not fit well in the space I have, so it's all cramped and I hate my workplace. I don't replace it also for financial reasons.

And actually, financial issues are partly due to the fact I like to visit my family who's living on 3 differents continents (so 4 with mine), and visit period is the period I can draw the most.
So I end up rarely drawing on a desk. I draw in airports/airplanes, train and stations, various houses of relatives, often sitting on the floor because there is not necessarily a desk for me. Also on hotel beds!
90% of my comic is made in such conditions.
Not great for my back, but I don't mind it so much.
