Mhm. Close, but not quite. I admit, it's not a super precise distinction, though.
While, yes, we all work differently and some of us take more pleasure from planning, while others like to jump in without a plan, it doesn't have to take the passion from pantsers when they see that they need to plan more after all (depending on the project).
I mentioned that I used my world in an RPG first, and during that time, I built the world while already telling stories. So in a way, I was both at the same time, but more someone who just wanted to throw out my characters ASAP, to see what they will do, where it will lead etc.âgo with the flow, basically.
But that gave me the most pleasure not because it was what I was necessarily most passionate about, but because I got immediate feedback: gratification (other characters' reactions, other players' feedback etc.). The pleasure came from this gratification, and you can produce that regardless of being a pantser or planner in any of the two approaches if you manage to uncouple it from other people. If you get to that point, you're basically independent from your own preferences, and can work with what your project needs most at any given time.
