It's been a few months since Tapas' UI updated, quite a few issues were fixed and I was hoping for more to be done but I realise that that might not happen unless they know there's an issue. The two biggest problems for me are (1) the screen is too cramped (2) the comments section is tiny. Let me explain.
1) Webcomics have increasingly become more vertical as more and more people read them on their phones. So why on earth did Tapas decide to make the vertical space on the desktop site as small as possible? I've found myself having to full-screen every comic and then un-full-screen to navigate to the next comic, and when you have to do that several times a day it gets tedious and tiring. My solution would be to have the bar at the bottom be at the sides where there's a ton of blank space cause comics can't be bigger than 940px wide.
2) The comments section is suffocatingly small. I have found myself not wanting to leave comments because it feels so cramped on the side over there. Why can't it be under the comic again? Give the words space to breathe and my eyes space to read. The whole UI remake seems like an attempt to make the desktop site more like the mobile app and I don't understand why. Desktop can be its own wonderful thing with lots of space!
These days I've been opening Tapas less and less because it feels like a chore having to navigate the interface. I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this, and I don't wanna diss whoever worked on the site cause it's a lot of work under a lot of eyes, so I hope this came off as at least a bit constructive.
