"Do you ever draw happy things?"
"Your arts not realistic enough" (courtesy of my parents)
"You know I have a friend whos practically broke because hes an artist"
"Its not smart going to an art college you know" (I want to major in business so??)
"Shes an artist and she likes gorey things so she can draw your tattoo for you!" (im 16 do I look like a tattoo artist ;-;)
"Add me to your webcomic!" (Just remembered this one ;;)

Any one else get weird things from people because you're an artist? Id like to know others experiences 😂

"HEY! DRAW ME! You're an artist right?"

My high school years in a nutshell...

person looks at me drawing
"I suck at drawing I want to die /give up."

I never know how to respond to things like that
rip

I've had multiple people tell me my art is creepy (which well, I disagree that it is, but I also don't care if people think it is?? I'm writing a comedy horror, and I've always drawn comedy horror, people finding it creepy isn't exactly insulting)

I've also had multiple people tell me I'm "limiting my options" for not wanting to work for particular companies. Companies like Disney. You know, those ones that are really hard to get into in the first place. It's not exactly option limiting if I don't want to work there when there's so many other places out there that would not only be easier to get into, but I'd also be far more interested in working for. Come on, people, Disney is not the only company out there that uses art.

oh man if I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me haha.
(I'd probably get something nice to eat)

"Draw me" is a classic :D, also "you should really go get a degree in art" when I'm like nope, bio/psych is the goal! but I don't really find them annoying ^_^ In a way, I'm glad to be identified as an artist!

"I have an idea for a children's book, you should draw it."

"I have an idea for a comic. You should draw it."

"You draw comics? Hey I have some GREAT ideas for comics. You should draw them!"

"I don't understand how people don't pay you for your work you're so good. BTW I have this comic idea that I think your art would be PERFECT for, oh no I can't pay because I don't plan on sending it to a publisher lol just online."

"Can you draw my dog?"

"Can you draw my cat?"

"You shouldn't ask for money. Art is free, you should only draw it because you love to draw it shouldn't have anything to do with money. So draw my comic for me."

"Do you draw shota??? Can you draw shota for me??? 18+ Shota comic?? No. I have no money but I like the way you draw you would be really good at drawing shota 18+"

"I tried drawing for a year and I didn't improve. So I need you to draw my comic for me."

"Hi can you draw me a commission? I don't have money but if you do I will give you permission to put MY character in your comic =)"

I could really go on forever....

Me: Was in a Game Art program, studying game art, learning how to make art for video games. Told all my relatives that I want to work for certain game companies, constantly telling them things about the game industry.

Every person in my family: I can't wait to see your name in the credits of a Pixar movie some day!!!

"You should draw tattoos...can you draw a tattoo for me?"

"Have you heard of 'video game title" You should draw a comic of it!!!!!!"

"Can you add my character in your comic?"

"Did you trace that?"

"Must be nice being an artist and only having to draw all day instead of doing actual work."

"That looks EXACTLY like my 9 year old daughters drawings! She loves drawing stuff like this!! You should meet her!" (spoiler alert... her daughter's stuff does not look exactly like mine)

"You know how you're an artist! And you like painting!? (I don't like painting, I like sketching and inking) well you should help me paint my walls!!"

"You're an artists, wanna paint the windows on my business? Money? No, it's volunteer work. Supplies? Shouldn't YOU have those? You're the artist."

"One day you'll be so good and drawing, and be rich and famous, and then all this crappy art you're doing now will be worth money!"

that weird thing that's like??? "Your art is so good it makes me hate mine/makes me want to throw all my art away uugghughuuuuuuuu waaaa" like............................................thats not..............a compliment

and then the classic "I can't even draw a stick figure!!11!1"

edit: can't forget my mom telling me that my character caravan isn't sexy enough and needs a smaller waist and bigger tiddies, then when i told her no she then said i need to make a sexy female character and then have her get attacked and killed......................................................................................................................................................................................classic

I have some couple of stuffs like:

Friends: "When are you gonna draw a portrait of us?"

Mom: "Your drawings are demonic!" (Even though I draw human characters. Yeah that happened.) (She probably thinks I'm doing some kind of blasphemy because she's a devout catholic)

"You should just look for a different job!"

"You're just wasting your degree" or "Why don't you just get a work relevant to your degree?" (because my college degree was computer science)

Also I recently got a comment saying

"This is simply fantabulous ♡ Take a look at my stuffs too."

This isn't probably that bad but I feel like the person complimented me just because they want me to look at their art (I'm that cynical) and I don't even know this person. It feels like an indirect way of "follow for follow" kind of thing. I wouldn't mind doing that if you're asking me for a critic but aside from that I don't have much reason to do that.

I find this pretty hilarious because I think people who says get a job Disney/Marvel or any other mainstream companies are the ones who has extremely limited options.

nope I get the " You draw?" like you don't see it on my face book tumblr twitter blogger Deviant art and personal website.

I had a girl scream and cry I drew "sad" things. She refused to look at any of my work unless it was happy and if I show her anything that was even mildly dark, even if it was just colored dark she would freak out and turn away. And I usually used a lot of dark colors and moody scenery too. She was 17.

My dad thinks comics and animation are the same thing and would tell me to pitch comics to animation companies without understanding the difference between the two, one moves, one doesn't.

Well, I had lots of negative and positive things. Things like "cringe" "terrible" and then things like "awesome" and "fantastic". You know that's just the one word comment type stuff. But then I've had stuff like "can you draw this character in a car accident sleeping on an airbag?" and also had one person message me out of the blue and keep hounding me about drawing some sort of hentai comic with one of my characters and without me saying anything one way or another already had a pre-prepared rant about how I shouldn't ask for money (you want to use MY characters) and how because he'd do a little bit of help that was equal to being paid.

  • "anime!"
  • "tim burton!"
  • "scott pilgrim!"
  • "can't you draw something happier :("
  • "can you draw me?? ("ok sure") wait why am i naked!!! ((("GIVE ME TEN MORE SECONDS WOULD YOU")))"
  • "ugggh my god i'm never drawing again because of you" (uh thanks?)

"Omg, you can draw? Can you draw me a picture?"

"Hey, you can draw right? Why don't you participate in this project?" No! Why should I?

"You should totally paint a bird for the mural since you're good at art!" I don't wanna!!!

"Did you really draw that!?" (-_-)

"Can you draw a body base for me?" Really?

"Omg, how did you draw that?" By practicing -_-

"Ooo, can you draw me in anime style?" If I feel like it...

"Ooh, did you draw that?" (yes, I totally got this from someone else and decided to finish the inking by myself)

"Can you draw me?" "What? Money? Pfft, I'm not going to PAY you, we're friends!" (not anymore)

"You are so good at drawing I hate mine, mine sucks, you are god, we shall build a cult around you and worship you!" (that's not an exaggeration, nope)

"Ugh, that looks horrible, I could do soooOOO much better than that!" (ok. i don't... care)

"Oh, you should make this one characters look like insert qualities here and have insert tragic backstory here and end up being the herooooooo" (Are you trying to sabotage my comic? Because doing that would be basically "career" (put in quotes because I don't have a career) suicide.
