The Aviator caught sight of Genii looking at them weird. It was because of the smile. They knew it was because of the smile.
They tried to pull the corners of their mouth down, tried to pull their lips closed over their teeth. They couldn’t. They tried again. The smile was still glued to their face.
Which was why Charlie thought they were laughing when their shoulders began to shake.
“Hey,” she said, walking towards them. “What the hell are you laughing at? We just lost our way back to the Sanctuary and all our supplies, and you’re laughing?”
The Aviator responded by hiding their face.
“Look at me.” Charlie said, a small growl in her voice. “This is no laughing matter. We-“
She was cut off by a sob escaping from their throat.
“Oh-“ she said, realizing what was going on. “I thought- I didn’t know you were…” She cut herself off, sighing.
Charlie knelt down and silently pulled the Aviator into a hug.
