A Revenant Lost
It was the dead of the night as city streets were quiet and calm. Not a single car was in sight nor a single pedestrian walking along.
Rapid footsteps could be faintly heard moving from rooftop to rooftop as two armored figures could vaguely be seen beneath the moonlight. Running away from what many would see as a monster.
Shura moves within the Phantom Knight Armor and Rai with the Ronin Armor. He two brothers grappled up a building, only to dive down the other side and roll on the next rooftop to lessen the impact of their landing. The chase felt short and quick as they came across the edge of the city’s skyline as before them was a drop onto the pavement of the highway.
“Damn,” Rai said trying to catch his breath. “We could try to grapple down.”
“We have to fight,” said Shura as he looked at him. “Even if we grapple, that monster is just going to dive down and take us out before we even hit the concrete.” He turned around, his back toward the edge. “We don’t have any other choice.”
Rai drew his sword as red lightning sparked across the blade. “I was really hoping you wouldn’t say that. Our current armor won’t soften any blows either.”
“Sinkillers won’t make it in time either,” Shura took a deep breath.
The brothers were mentally prepared to take on their pursuer as he dropped down from the higher skyscraper before them.
Greed slowly rose after he landed before them. Two short swords in hand as opposed to the usual daggers he had. Like always, his face was hidden behind a gas mask and his hair was tired back. He didn’t wear any armor like Wrath or Lust but rather normal clothing with the exception of his top looking similar to a black straitjacket. Whether he was protected or not, it didn’t matter. Without needing to say a word, he rushed at the duo. His right blade clashed with Rai’s sword, while his left blade met with Shura’s shield.
The two brothers pushed him back, going on the offensive. Rai aimed high, while Shura aimed low. However, Greed kept up his speed and slowly turned the tide. He knocked Shura to the side as Rai disarmed the blade from the Sin’s right hand, followed by getting knocked away by the vigilante himself.
Rai ran over to help Shura up, but he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Shura’s eyes widened. “No!” he shouted as Greed as right behind Rai, the Sin’s blade went through the metal of the armor like a knife through butter. Blood slowly flowed from the edge of the blade and dripped off the point.
“I-I’m sorry...” Rai said weakly as Greed pushed him with his boot and pulled the sword out. He fell forward as Shura quickly crawled forward to catch him.
Greed turned and walked away, picking up his other sword. He achieved his mission to slay one and leave the other broken.
Shura wasn’t even concerned about Greed at this point. He held his brother and took off Rai’s mask. Shura hastily took off his gauntlet and checked for a pulse on Rai’s neck. It faded and then... it was gone.
Rai Reyes was slain.
“God no...” Shura couldn’t stop himself. He looked toward where Greed once was but the Sin already left. After hearing the fall of Nova Ara and the deaths of Arashi and Yumelie, Shura didn’t even consider a Sin coming after themselves. He blamed himself for not being prepared for the attack. The sorrow and despair that nestled itself within his heart quickly changed to anger and rage. He picked up his brother and called their jet to return home.
An hour has passed as Shura returned to HQ with Rai’s body, placing him on a metal table. With Essi and Angela, fast asleep and unaware of what took place, Shura was confronted by Cynthia.
“What the hell...” Cynthia placed a cloth over Rai’s entire body. “Shura, what happened?!”
Shura didn’t reply. He was silent and he already put on the clothing for the Sinkiller armor, but after that he put on the Reaper Armor right over it.
“Don’t you dare!” Cynthia stood in front of him right before he could put on the helmet. “Explain now. Because goddamn it, Rai is family to me too. So instead of the damn silent treatment, you will—“ She was cut off as Shura struck a pressure point in her neck, forcing her to lose consciousness.
Shura finished putting on the Reaper Armor and his Sinkiller armor underneath to be formed whenever necessary. He took his brother’s Ronin blade with him as he went over to the main computer and sent a simple message to the rest of the Prophets, only to leave right after.
Before the sunrise, Shura pulled a tracker out from the back of his helmet and crushed it in his hand.
