So i stumbled on this video and i liked how it sets simple guidelines for a power system to work. this video is oriented towards hard power systems tho.

For the folks that are too busy/tired/whatever to watch the whole video, here's a summary:

Consistency: you need to stick to your rules.

Clarity: readers need to understand your rules.

Competition: making the interaction between the powers and users interesting.

What are your thoughts on these guidelines?, have you applied them?.

Personally i think they can work as a world building tool to help with immersion in your story and these guidelines help to avoid overthinking about it.

So I kinda went too long on an answer about how in some animes when it's not really that focus on BATTLE magic it's not really necesary to obey all the three rules at once, and being to strict.
like one of my favourite animes of all time is the Ancient magus' bride, which isn't exactly clear about the CLARITY of the magic for some time, and it is shown rather than explained most of the time.
Still I agree with this if you're gonna make this kinds of anime or manga.

i think it depends on how the magic/powers are relevant to solve the conflicts, even outside of combat situations. For example, in Harry Potter they explained how the polyjuice potion works to set the potential complications and limitations for infiltration and spying situations.
