hello guys, I saw hiveworks are open for submissions and artists are getting hyped about it the question is how is it different from tapastic? ( aside from they'll help you with your own website and all that written features) I mean how is the traffic in hiveworks? in my short trip there i didn't see creators having 5k plus readers and all ( I could be wrong pls help xD). wouldn't it be better to establish a name here in tapastic THEN make a website with faster updates with Tapastic as its mirror? or opting for hiveworks would be better? I'm gonna submit a pitch however I'm having second thoughts since I love tapastic and I will have to leave IF they accept me there (a big IF ) share your insights, experience or your anxieties guys Lets talk about it smiley

Here's a thread of people's opinions on Hiveworks. I don't know if anyone mentions page traffic, but it might be worth looking into.

I don't really know if you can see people's reader counts on Hiveworks? But it seems like everyone on that site's patreons are doing pretty well which is kind of a way to judge that.

Personally, it doesn't really cross my mind for apply since I have had my own site for years now and I like Tapastic. I don't mind managing my own business for my comic and promoting it myself, but I think if you're unsure about those aspects Hiveworks could be a good match for you.

Hiveworks and Tapastic are pretty different services.

You get an account on Tapastic which lets you publish your comic. You don't really have your own website, you have space on the Tapastic website. Tapastic doesn't promote all its creators -- there are ways for creators to be spotlighted, but they might literally might never happen to you. And Tapastic markets primarily to its audience -- you are unlikely to run into Tapastic outside of the Tapastic website.

Hiveworks does offer hosting, but in a completely different way -- every webcomic has its own website, and those websites have a series of ads on them that direct people to other Hiveworks comics. In the same way, other websites' Hiveworks ads will now sometimes direct them to your comic. (And in that thread Kaykedrawsthings linked, someone mentions that Hiveworks spent a pretty significant amount of money marketing their comic in its early stages, and talks about how their traffic was affected by a switch from Tapastic to HW)

I think it'd be hard to compare in terms of which one's more viable -- it's also a matter of which approach you prefer. Tapastic is a closed audience and it's notoriously difficult to coax that audience to other sites, but it makes no demands of its creators in terms of quality or schedule or fully planned story -- you can do what you want with your space. Hiveworks is not a closed audience and actively promotes its members -- but it wants you to promise a regular schedule of updates and sign a contract.
But there's no harm in applying. You can always apply, and if you're accepted, discuss all this stuff in the Skype interview where you hammer out your contract, and change your mind if it doesn't sound right for you!

Forgive me if this is common knowledge/a silly question, but how is Tapastic is comparison in terms of size/readership?( I'm still pretty new to this site!)

While I would seriously consider it if they ever approached me, I still think that their method of promoting outside sites is anachronistic. Imagine if you had to go to a different website to watch each of your favourite Youtubers. No, I think the future lies in aggregate sites like this one and Webtoons.

Having said that, I'm sure they work really hard to promote their creators.

Also, and this is by no means 100% accurate, or even all that particularly illustrative since Hiveworks doesn't host comics on their site, still, since you asked, here are some rankings from alexa.com.

Do the artists there earn by getting paid by Hiveworks (similar to LINE webtoons pro comics) or through ads?
