The future of online games...?

So, apparently Flash Player is going to be phased out of web browsers over the next couple of years; by 2020 it will be gone, along with a sizable portion of my childhood. ;_;

So...what next? Are we entering an age where it will no longer be possible to just hop online, search up your favorite genre, and browse through hundreds of independently made games to play at your leisure, download-free?
Or is there something else that will replace Flash? I had to download something called Unity once, to play Nitrome games...is that the future?

And, most importantly...what will happen to all those Flash games that are still out there?

something else will have to replace flash, its such a necessary function. i dont understand why theyd phase it out except to replace it with something else

the most beloved flash games might get tweaked by someone to work with whatever new thing comes along, but i imagine most will be lost to time.

While I'm not an expert on the topic, I believe it's being phased out because in spite of how widely it's been used, it has a lot of problems. It's proprietary, and has had security issues.

i'm sad but i feel like this is why i used flash downloader plugins when i was younger. now i can play sonic flash whenever. i just wish i could get ahold of pokemon leaf green.

If they're still being maintained they will just update to new architecture. There might also be emulators of some sort for really old games.
