Personally speaking, images, drawings or objects hardly get me over that ´mawkish´ line (although certain plush toy designs give me the cringe. But Ăm not into plush animals anyway, so thatâs just not my thing, I guess.)
What I see as mawkish and not cute at all are cheesy dialogues or deeds. Like, dude bringing his significant other flowers and tells them he loves them out of his heart, thatâs cute.
Same situation but now he starts talking about how much deep and strong their love is, how the other person is their world and that they canât live without them, combined with some âsmoochy-poochyâ pet names...ugh, Iâm out.
Thing is, the line is super thin for me. I read/heard people confessing their love in fiction and music in a long and deep way and sometimes it sounds and feels great....while in other cases it sounds trashy and fake and here and there kinda manipulative.
Itâs phony and makes me feel unease and I want to get away from it. Thatâs what I consider mawkish.
Big eyes, frills, hearts and stuff. No problem. Bomb me with that as much as you like
But overly romantic dialogue....naaaaah!
