I describe my style as very simplistic, I don't like details or stuff that doesn't have a relevancy in the image. I also love using monochrome palettes with some accents of colors to have an image that can instantly be digested.
Sometimes I feel mediocre when I compare myself with artists who make way better panels, better illumination, more detailed characters with lost of accessories and awesome backgrounds. When I try to push myself to do more detail I realize that I don't really want that, i'm happy with my style. When someone say "hey, put more details on the clothes" I want to respond "I don't want to". as simple as that.
I will try to improve in other areas like composition, anatomy and facial expression but I will try to avoid forcing myself to like things that I don't care about. I really am very hard working and I hate feeling like I don't try hard enough to do better, at the end of the day I want my art to be interesting and not boring or plain.
I think that many times simplicity is mistaken with laziness or carelessness, when in reality sometimes is hard to work with a few elements. Do you ever feel the need to "complicate" your art more just to feel like you are doing "superior art"?
Of course this approach is subjective and you can respond according to your own standards of what you consider "mediocre", what you consider "better art" "superior art", etc.
Have a good night!
