first, I'm with @colinmooredraws on being confused about the misleading title of this thread. If you haven't used the app, how can you be unimpressed with it?
second, not a ton has changed when it comes to navigating the mobile app, in my opinion. "trending" has taken the UI of "top series", so free to read trending comics are still near the top of the app. they also kept the collections they change on a weekly basis, where they feature free to read series alongside their premium series. your library is still at the bottom of the navigation page, and they've even added a notifications tab so you can better interact with fellow readers and creators.
i didn't find the search function difficult to find, it's just at the bottom corner of the page now rather than along the top.
premium series do appear with larger, more attractive icons now. that's fine. tapas doesn't run on its free to read series. we post here, pull in audiences that may buy their premium series and in turn we get kickbacks from ad revenue and ink donations. that's the way it's been for a while. i'm not salty they want to focus and promote what helps their company run. i'm happy they feature free to read comics on the front page of their app at all!
