Summary: Right when Suri McAllister had decided to live, someone named Phoenix decided that she needed to die. With the help of some powerful beings who call themselves Troupe Members, she now has to fight for her choice. What did she have that was worth being killed for anyway?
Excerpt:
“What’s an Aptitude?” Suri asked.
Before Dante could respond, a distinct voice with a curt tone joined their conversation. “Someone’s rather curious.”
Trenton stepped forward into the hallway, arms crossed, and eyes narrowed at Dante. Fae, who had returned as well, stomped past him. She sat heavily onto Dante’s lap and Suri naturally lowered her feet to the floor and returned the bowl to the table. Suri didn’t expect an answer to her question, which made her even more surprised when Trenton provided it.
“An aptitude is a manifestation of a Troupe Member’s energy,” he said. “Each member has a personal, unique ability. Phoenix, for example, can create illusions, manipulate your senses, and alter reality. Much like what I’m sure you experienced today.” (Lacuna: A Nexus Troupe Novel, Chapter 4)
