Kind of the same for me, with exceptions.
I'm abroad 2 to 3 months a year, so any plant dies even with an automatic watering system. Except this year. I was given a fig tree, which I thought could maybe survive my 2 months absence if it was losing its leaves and going in full dormancy. But this little idiot absolutely refused. Obviously, putting it outside was out of question as it goes down to -40C where I am. So it stayed home to die.
I come back 2 months after, and... it's exactly as when I left, but the leaves look toughen and dehydrated. After I gave water, BOOM, doubled in size in a fortnight. I will probably get figs this year (1 to 3 I guess).
