(caveat: have not seen the flick) Well, the speaker didn't really answer the question, did he? He went on and on about exactly the kinds of things about which the writer was NOT trying to make a story. It does seem to tell a tale about the writer's own life, that he thinks "the real world" is so without flavor or drama.
I believe most "real lives" are somewhere in between. They're made of small villains & quiet heroes & little injustices. They may seem boring to tell about, but I think that "boring", like beauty, often lies in the eyes of the beholder. If I expected swords & sorcery or rocket ships I'll likely be disappointed if what I get is a "slice of life" tale. But if I let that tale spin out I may find that disappointment replaced with more pleasing emotions.
