A giant smile illuminated my face as pure happiness consumed me.

Love you! He didn't say the words, but I heard them anyway.

"Need to see you for this. I miss you, Ama, and can't wait to see you again."

These young characters are painfully human. I’d love for you to give this story and their journey a try.

The words circled through my mind on a loop. Shocked, I slipped into a silent stupor as Kade and I made our way to the dining hall.

"... after the dance. Because of some guy, she wanted it between us, so I didn't tell anyone till now." Kade said. "It's not the only time, either. We were literally in a lip lock when I regained my senses inside the locker room—the other secret I couldn't tell—but the kiss woke me from my shock, big time."

Amalia flat-out lied to my face, and I wanted to wipe the bragging grin off Kade's mouth with my fist.

My body tightens with surprise at how infuriated I made her, but as hostile as she sounds, it doesn't mask the wounded note weaved in her tone. I glance over her head to gather my thoughts on doing this without mentioning Kade. "I know it sounds ridiculous, Ama, and maybe it makes no sense to you, but if you'll just listen..."

Everleigh latches on to Talan, attempting not to fall, but it is probably a disguise to cop a feel and end up in his arms. Talan staggers, his hand on her back, taking her with him a few paces before catching himself upright. I can't see their expressions from my position, but I can see his hands gripping her elbows. The positions of their heads make it seem like they're staring into one another's eyes. Everleigh is exquisite.

I scowl, my anger coiling beneath my skin like a rattlesnake preparing to strike Miss. Wannabe Center of Attention. "I'm going over there."
