I'm pretty sure you don't actually need the reinforcement. But I really agree with you deeply, so here goes (please don't kill me): to me, this topic was NEVER about anything inherently bad in character design... just some tropes that are somewhat overused and get a little stale because we see them everywhere as consumers of entertainment... Which absolutely does not mean that any character is bad for fitting into these tropes.
Those tropes exist for a reason: they're great. They serve a purpose. They fulfill a need on the creators' part or on the readers' part or both. They are NOT inherently bad.
Say, you might think chocolate cake is WONDERFUL. But maybe if you were fed chocolate cake every day of the week, every week of the month, every month of the year, maybe at some point you'd go "I CANNOT STAND CHOCOLATE CAKE ANYMORE" does that mean chocolate cake is inherently bad? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Chocolate cake is awesome. There are plenty of fans who crave chocolate cake and if you want to make some, why wouldn't you?
So don't mind some overfed people ranting about how they'd like some more diversity in their cake flavors (like vanilla, strawberry, coffee, cinammon, lavender, who knows what)... It doesn't mean those chocolate cakes you make are any less delicious.
