Is it just me and my feminism-addled brain or are most of the rants here about tropes imposed on female characters?
Like, there are some awful tropes about male characters as well, don't get me wrong (like what's the obsession with the 6-pack, really? I do really mean that, I mean, I'm a lesbian, so I don't really care if a man is buff or not, but I have trouble believing straight women care that much about abdominal muscles in partners), but most of the terrible character tropes fall on female characters.
And it makes sense. If you take into account that a lot of series are either under the smurfette principle (so there is only ONE female character, how would anyone be able to design such a role model correctly?) or a harem situation (and really, there are only so many secondary characters you can create in the same story/universe without resorting to tropes).
Of course, what I'm saying does not apply to a lot of indie comics. Mostly it applies to AAA budget movies, comics and video games. Because Hollywood and Wall Street and all their old white straight guys. Or so I've been led to believe.
