Thoughts on Cannon Busters?

Heard Netflix had an anime made by a black person and ofc I wanted to watch it (urban support is important). However, I'm not so sure how to feel about it. It's not bad, but it's not the best thing ever either. I can't put into proper words but maybe the characters are kinda...flat? I haven't gotten past the 9th episode, does the action and good parts pick up then? Idk, wanted to know what other people thought. I will admit the theme song frickin slaps, though

I haven't seen it but heard of it. And quite honestly...the advertisement they used for it on the phone app absolutely sucked. I mean all it said was watch Canon Busters now on Netflix and the pic they used looked reminiscent of the old Bustamove/Bubble Buster game so I was like...meeeh and turned it down.

I watched it, it was okay. I actually like the old man 9INE- total badass...I like Sam, but dont like how between transformations, she doesnt retain any of the knowledge of what she's done.

So they never explain that huh. It's such an interesting thing but I feel there's more they could do with it. 9Ine is kinda okay for me, really liked his scenes with 12welve though.

Netflix has been shit at advertising for some of its shows (RIP Tuca & Bertie, ODAAT, Chambers, and the OA). So, can't fault you for that.

Yeah the big problem is with Disney and others pulling away to make their own streaming services Netflix has to churn out the originals and they don't bother to really advertise them like they used to.

Its actually not that bad. The advertisement was terrible but the show is okay. I can't stand the maintenance bot. Sam gets a little annoying in episode three but overall its not bad so far.

ive seen trailers for it on twitter and some bts stuff but haven't watched it yet. havent really paid much attention to reviews yet cause i wanna get a feel for it myself without outside opinions

I've watched four episodes of CB now, and so far, I think it's decent. Similar to everyone else, I immediately thought "Cowboy Bebop" when I saw the style. It also reminded me of "Michiko to Hatchin", "Gangsta", and a little bit of "Trigun." It's a good style. Sits well on the eyes.
I also agree that the main three characters are a bit monotonous in their personalities, but if you can get pass that, CB is pretty nice to look at. In terms of action, this is no "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba", but CB can still hold its own. The plot is also interesting and the world they're building is HUGE! So I'm hoping it picks up later on too.

It has a nice art style and all, but it is just too corny for my liking. The characters are about as deep as a tablespoon so it's a deal breaker for me. I need the characters to be interesting and well-written to get invested.
Like yeah, it's a nice idea with a lot of potential but if your characters aren't strong I'm gonna give that a hard pass.

I'm also very seasoned when it comes to TV shows (especially animated ones) so I have SUPER narrow tastes. If something isn't REALLY good I'll probably not enjoy it at all, sadly. I watched two episodes of kakegurui and was genuinely angry at how bad it was. I'm sure somebody with more inclusive taste could like it, but I'm super picky.

I haven’t seen it but I did hear it originally started as just some concept art on DeviantArt. So I mean, I find that pretty cool. Visually it looks good to me but basing off of the trailers I wasn’t expecting it to be deep or anything.

Really REALLY wanted to comment, but I didn't want to post anything until I watched it myself.

Finally watched it after looking at the reviews of my go-to Youtubers. Ironically enough, the Black reviewers were on average a LOT more critical - with comments like "So you want me to like this just because it was created by a brother?". He said other stuff that isn't "nice", and he did negatively critique the character's personality and growth - but he grudgingly praised the animation and character design.

My thoughts? MEH. The animation and character design IS good, and I like the world building, but I found the character growth and other aspects, wanting. To which I wanted more.

Like many here, I got a Cowboy Bebop feel and others mentioned, but I agree with the Youtubers' comments: "Like Black Panther, this is only getting great reviews because if you say anything negative about it, you're automatically a racist" (paraphrased).

CB was OK, but I think it needed MORE. You either like it or you don't; and I'm on the side of there was a little bit more Pros than Cons, that I ended up liking it. Light spoiler: The concept of a count of how many times you've respawned is a cool concept - as well as what it does to your body (Episode 2).

It's not the best starting out, but it's not bad either. There are concepts of the show that I liked while there are things that I didnt care for...but overall, it was a decent show; I hope Thomas can build on what he has established in season 2 and make it better.
