Thoughts on the new Webtoon Contest?

i am also very intimidated by the atmosphere on webtoon and initially want to publish as a regular there but when i check the site there's a contest going on and i'm having a hard time deciding whether i would like to join as well, since i know this is my first time posting there and i'm scared for the reaction not only because i'm terribly new at this also what might coming from the passionate readers who already have preferred webtoons and want it to win, therefore the downvote or the bad reviews. i mean i need time to prepare my mental self for this ;;w;;

So a friend and I just noticed the panel requirements on the app are all 40? Is this a glitch or what? What's the truth, WT?

I would keep your contest entry clean, but use your non contest entry to cross promote.

I know there's the drama with downvote waves and everything happening with the contest, but I can't help but be super excited after reading some of the entries (thanks for adding a tab webtoon!).

Wow. Just wow. I'll be a participant in the contest, but I can't help but be hyped for other people's entries. These introductory panels are establishing mood and flow on such a professional level. It really got me motivated to be reworking mine

So many noteworthy comics already, and we're only on day 14.

I've seen many creators on social media planning to launch in July. The competition will just get fiercer and more intense by then.

I have bets among each category, but you just never know which ones Webtoons will choose.

The 40% reader engagement is such a huge chunk and hurts the small creators. Maybe 10% of reader engagement will be more appropriate to encourage unknown creators to join.But it is what it is.

It will end up as a popularity contest.

The theory that I've discussed with friends and see as highly likely, is that there are 8 winners and they will probably pick:
4 comics that are fairly popular but mostly they just like for whatever reasons (One for each category), 3 comics that are the most popular, and 1 comic that is not popular and possibly not standing out in any manner but still a solid comic- the underdog if you will.

I mean they might. they might not. I'm by no means affiliated with webtoons and have ZERO inside knowledge. I just feel based on the comics they have already picked to be featured this is a decent possibility.

will they still pick up series from regular webtoons after the contest? since there'll be atleast 8 series to be featured from the contest and if we look at the fact that the editorial team is picking one series every month it's safe to say that there'll be none for upcoming 8 month since the contest?
i mean i've checked the entries listed here and it's like the winner's already there lol. i think to grow audience more as a regular would have better chance of ever getting featured but i really dont know anything about it. maybe i'll post something when the athmosphere is more subdued

true, when i saw one of the entries my personality as a creator was forgotten and i was just an excited fan wishing them to win lmao. esp the introductory episodes. they're giving it all their best and tho it's very intense it also increasing the mood to redraw my comic and improve better

Part of me is wishing luck to the Webtoon judges lol. Almost 2000 entries for all the categories combined and we're not even a month in. I wonder how they'll be able to read everything... Maybe there's specific people who are assigned to read from each category? Even then, that's a lot of reading if all/most of these entries have at least 4 episodes each by the end of the competition.

They will prolly employ a "weeding out" process.

Oh that's actually pretty efficient lol. I was here thinking they'll read as each entry updates or something. Hmm I guess first impressions really count then.

Oh they updated the Webtoon app with a tab listing all the entries so far. So far it's smth like 1800 entries if you tap "All." Surprisingly, the "Most Epic" category has the most entries so far. I thought "Most Feels" or "Most Laughs" would've been more popular actually.

I imagine there will be a weeding out process for popularity ranking and views/likes/comments ratio which will bring it down to 100 per category or something like that. Then they'll weed out the ones which meet the episode and panel requirement.

Though I think the thumbnail is important, they'll know within the first episode whether the comic fits the webtoon format and if the art is good enough. They probably want creators which follow the "webtoon tips" they gave right after announcing the contest.
