The solution is to literally just give characters more depth beyond being a stereotype.
It really and truly is as simple as that when it comes to plus-size folks and burly gals. In particular, I'd do the same thing I would do for any character that wasn't that body type and focus more on developing them as characters, and good characters have layers and complexities that go beyond first glance shallow tropes.
Ind the beginning to subvert the trope I would go far in the opposite direction of the problem ie. make fat folks that have confidence, look cute, and wear clothes that fit and accentuate their fatness. I've learned to create more and more characters of different weight classes that aren't all as confident, but I do work to make sure that they are still desired in some way by someone in my stories. Doing little checks and balances like that help flesh out characters, but still, keep the negative part of the tropes at bay.
I also don't make plus-size character's weight the focal point of every conversation or observation made towards them. I don't ignore physical descriptions or that there are things that will be different for a bigger person, but I address it with the thought process of it is what it is over trying to go the extra yard to just say "Yeah they fat and here's every round synonym I can think of". IE. in my story MagicalMashup! magic exists and my main character is quite heavy as she is a fat gal. If her partner needed to pick her up, for some reason, he could not without the help of a "light as a feather spell" but his friend who is nonbinary and loves a more feminine aesthetic could do it without a spell as they are quite buff and physically strong.
For muscular women, I like to mix body language up as it's easy to make a lot of confident poses for them bc it feels natural, but showing them getting in touch with their softer side could be as simple as drawing them feeling cute in a new outfit, being afraid and doing something as simple as looking for a hand to hold or a bit of comfort. Taking a chill day and watching the rain in their PJs. Little things that file the edges. Also, chill out on the jerk time. I mean it happens, but if she is gonna be a jerk, she will be explored more as to the root of why she acting so and not just one note mean girl. Sure She can be tough, but she doesn't always have to be in tough mode. I also love making muscular folks that are big softies that give great hugs!
and to what Fox said about the woman being the end goal and then losing all her fight to settle down when she was on the whole dang adventure, to begin with!? Yoooooo you taking me for a ride bc that Peeves me so much too. Family can be the start of a whole new adventure. I love adventure couples and it's also something I will be showing more of in my comic. Shoot the protagonist's mom is still out there doing it big and she in her 60s at this point in the story
