I've had an idea in my head for a while of a world where zombies just become another facet of life that humanity has long since managed with mundane solutions. Maybe there's a flashback or the series is introduced with your standard "zombie apocalypse" scenario, but after a time skip, society has just returned to normal but zombification is simply another illness that exists.
You'd have people casually talking about things like "After my cousin got run over, we found out he had zombification in his blood, so he just got back up and started shambling towards the nearest person to eat. We just had to keep our distance until the cops arrived to put him down. Worst way for a family member to go out."
Or you have a movement of people who encourage society to move towards cremating the dead, since it's the most surefire way to prevent reanimation. But there are large contingents of people who want to keep their loved ones' bodies intact, for sentimental or religious reasons. Every now and then you hear news stories about a zombie interrupting a wake.
And you can also treat zombies like a regular wildlife danger - city folk rarely ever encounter zombies (when they do it becomes a minor viral news story), rural dwellers see them as a nuisance, and in some less developed nations with poor infrastructure, they're a larger problem.
EDIT: You ever have an idea you feel is unique only to remember it was already done by someone else? I just realized this idea may have been inspired by the ending of Shaun of the Dead, where there's a montage of TV airing human interest stories on the zombie event and game shows using zombies. Still, it only lasted a few minutes, so there's still room for a story to flesh out a whole world like this.
