ah I'm gonna just shamelessly plug my own thread. I go over online resources, art books, and how to use them.

This is a motivational thread for posting your studies! It can include figure studies, gesture drills, anatomy, photo studies, master studies, etc. The point is to share, keep each other accountable, and track our progress. It can be boring stuff and not the kind of stuff that does well on social media, so it can be easy to slack off on them. My super ultimate favourite books for comic artists are:

Making Comics by Scott McCloud (What even needs saying? this is a must have book)
Drawn to Life by Walt Stanchfield (lecture notes from the lectures of a legendary disney animator when he was training the young animators behind the Disney renaissance, wonderful, if dense, book on gesture and expression)
Perspective! For Comic Book Artists by David Chelsea (Taking a leaf out of Scott McCloud's book and applying it to perspective)
Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter by James Gurney (Great book on understanding how colour and light work. Amazing for painting, but broadly applicable with gorgeous examples of work by an accomplished artist)

All three are very charming and very good teachers who create short form videos on youtube or their website. The majority of there videos are short and to the point, but still very full in depth and understanding. I've purchased a lot of their paid content and they're even more helpful as they go more into detail of what they show with their free content.

Another artist I love is Stan Prokopenko on youtube. He's just as charming as the other three but I just separated him from that bunch because I haven't had the chance to purchase his paid material yet. But his free material and podcasts are abundant on youtube and are extremely helpful!

This is the best book ever about how to get into the down and dirty of how perspective works--not just giving you tricks, but really helping you understand how it WORKS.

I bought it last year, and learned a ton despite having a lot of drawing experience. Learned stuff in this book I did not learn in my art degree. It is over $20 because it's a huge tome (like this book has a lot of info) but it is well illustated, has a lot of examples, and thinks about a lot of situations where you would normally rely on 3d modeling and gives you a way to do it quicker illustrating just with simple guides and a tablet.

Good books are worth paying money for! Especially if you find them particularly helpful! I feel like my backgrounds are lacking, among other things, so this could be a good one. And I like big books that I can thumb through repeatedly haha! Thank you!!!
