I don't know if it's on the level of a 'masterpiece' yet, but I'm gonna say The Owl House?
It was hyped up a lot before its release (people were saying it was gonna be the next Gravity Falls...regardless of its quality, no, it is not) and even now it receives a lot of praise from its fans. I have yet to see anyone other than myself say anything negative about it. But I just find it...okay.
It's just always a step below "I love this". I do like the show, but I feel like I could like it MUCH more if basically every aspect of it just had that extra something-something.
The humor is average, the character designs are average, the writing is average (except for Episode 1, that straight-up SUCKED), the overarching plot is (for now) fairly average. I watch it, I smile a little, but really nothing keeps attracting me back to the show besides curiosity.
Of course, too much 'average' eventually turns into 'disappointing'...this was most apparent around the season finale. All of a sudden the 'Conformatorium' stuff became relevant again, AND they threw all the lore of the covens in at the last second, even though it's been a necessary plot element for over half the season...between that and the fact that I'm just not invested in most of the characters, I did not have as much fun as the other OH fans. =/ I'd rate my hype for Season 2 at 5/10: just average.
One thing I think actually deserves lots of praise (but never gets any...) is all the background stuff. The design of the monsters and the architecture/settings, the little jokes involving the background characters (ngl, they're the only ones who make me laugh).
Even my favorite main character in the show is the minor one no one pays attention to: Gus! I really hope the writers aren't going to continue lowkey ignoring him in S2; he's starting to feel like a mere appendix to the main Amity-Luz-Willow friend triangle...they literally shove him off to the side with King sometimes; I'm worried about my boy...
I guess in conclusion: yeah, I find it a consistently underwhelming show. But the scenery is pretty nice.
