Ok, so I've seen some replies regarding the structuring of comics in a Japanese manga format, and since I use that format, I'm gonna defend myself (possibly badly).
I'm not saying that everyone who uses the format is using it for the same reasons as I do, but for me, I use the format because of just how close I am with manga. I've been reading them ever since I learned how to use a computer, I taught myself how to draw like some of my favorite mangakas (even though back then my imitations ended up more like extremely bad fanart), and I even managed to collect some physical copies of different kinds of manga, which are so f*cking hard to find where I'm from. So the moment I decided to create my own comic some eight years ago or so, I knew I'd be doing it in a Japanese manga format to sort of honor the medium. And I guess that still hasn't changed.
Another thing is how I panel. I've noticed that a lot of times when people read, especially when it's from left to right, their eyes sort of involuntarily "quickscan" the entirety of the two pages in front of them, which kinda ruins any surprise or sudden moments the author wants you to experience, and this is especially true when there's drawings in those pages. But when people read from right to left, most readers aren't used to it, so there's resistance when your eyes try to "quickscan", and that's something authors can take advantage of, especially comic/manga authors when structuring their panels (which I try to do, even though it isn't really that noticeable).
The reading orientation's just about the only thing I've imitated, though. I've never tried to use Japanese SFX simply because I don't know the written language all too well, and when it comes to written language, when you write it wrong, it's ALWAYS noticeably wrong. If even the English language being used incorrectly spawned the rise of grammar nazis, I don't wanna know what comes after the people who use something as complicated as Japanese incorrectly.
