Unwise projects, failed attempts and other embarrassing things we created

Mine are bad but not as interesting as yours. I basically got into comics because I wanted to do a rip off of fairy tail so that was my first comic. Then I tried to do one based on a fantastic rpg I used to like and it slowly became super derivative. My current comic is only my third effort to do an ‘original’ work.

So when I was about... I dunno, about 19, I think? (I'm guessing 19 because my scrawled notes on the art I have references FFX-2 and it looks like my style from then) I was the lead artist on a team project in an RPGmaker community called "Skytower Games" to make a truly excessively ambitious RPG called Dra'Dul. It had a ton of characters, job switching, complete with character sprite changes, an epic plot about the downfall of the hero... It actually got a fair way along considering it was by a bunch of teenagers, with musical tracks, chipsets, finished character art etc. In the end, we really had just bitten off more than we could chew and the project slowly just kinda stalled.

Please be prepared to cringe at teenage me's use of L33Tspeak, dated pop culture references and annoying "lolrandom!" humour. It was like 2004, okay? I AM CRINGING AT HER MORE THAN ANYONE.

Mmmmm Pencil crayons.... Years later, I stole this hairstyle for an update to Rekki's design. But here this was the main character, Thea, who was later renamed Juno.

Okay this design is kinda legit cool, past me. Even if it is for a tiger-man called.... Tora. (That's just Japanese for Tiger) who has the kanji for "power" all over him.

Haha.... In the closet... me? No, whatever do you mean I think Orlando Bloom is an attractive human male I am definitely not gay hahahahahahahahahahahahaha........ (dammit, past me, you doofus). Still, I kinda like these drawings.

Since most of the people involved in this arent active here I have no regrets admitting that this project was the worst thing I took part in. I hated every second of this, and I wasnt even in charge of it, it just got dumped on me because the original creator of it didnt want to take any responsibility for it. So many dumb arguments from every direction, and I just refuse to bring it up as a positive project I've had the displeasure of working on.

@amortelito I'll admit right now that even though that scared the bejesus out of me just now. It's still pretty cool that you made it.

For me, an unwise/embarrassing thing I created was a very long 100+ page story about The Lion King was going to be a on Broadway musical (this is years before it actually happened) and I was was chosen to play Nala and it was mostly about my obsession with JTT at the time. It was the 90's and I was in 6th grade. Luckily, I didn't spend my entire year working on it and moved on to an obsession drawing Sailor Moon instead.

And a failed attempts, I have two of them. It's not that they were bad ideas to start with, it's because they were not ready and still needed more work. Their both the same idea, but two failed attempts. The first attempt, I was young and still in high school, so I was uneducated on how to write a good story, how to make a comic and how to draw. The idea was good, the execution was not. I tried again a few years later with what I had learned so far, but the story still needed more work and I hadn't anchored my style yet, so I had to trash it. The 3rd attempt is the successful one, it's my comic on Tapas. But, the first two attempts are definitely fails and I'm glad I abandoned them, it would have been stupid of me to continue on with either.

I've spent a big chunk of my school life writing this Magic Knight Rayearth spinoff (it's like...5 hefty notebooks of written text), putting original characters there and this is embarrassing as hell
The good thing that came from it was, obviously, the creation of the characters I loved that I later put in their own universe (the novel with them never happened too, but that's the problem with all my original works, nothing new). I still occasionally draw stuff with them, because they are amazing in their cringiness, combining all the stuff I liked as a teen

@KoreanTacos unfortunately I don't remember and there's no way to check it out, since the notebooks are in another city I definitely changed all the characters names and plot events accidentally though, because I watched the anime in Japanese with no subs and I think I barely watched like 1/5 of it too

oooooh, RPG maker was my jam during my teens!. Never got too far with it, but managed to design some cool dungeons.

Wanted to thank you for keeping things working and for your patience until we managed to publish. The team i was on took a bit longer, we were too detail oriented and wanted everyone on the team to be happy with the result.

Was not a marketing success, but learned a lot about other aspects of the webcomic industry and working on larger teams. Also, my readers had fun

I tried to write a short, 2-page comic.
doesn't sound like a bad idea, right? but I thought I was supposed to cram all the elements of a story into those 2 pages, instead of showing just one moment from a bigger story.
it turned into 14 pages.
then I tried to write another one, but I was a little more realistic. 10 pages.
it turned into 22.
now that I actually understand what short comics are about, I'm going to try writing short comics in the world of my 22-page comic and see how that goes. that way I don't have to build an entirely new world just for one story. hope that goes well!

It took everything in me not to comment on how long it took you guys, because one specific person was constantly complaining about us taking too long, not to mention one of the guys flat out disappeared which delayed us, some members didnt want to do things, I wasted my time making a site, organizing things, creating a template for the guy who started only for them to say they no longer wanted to be in charge and expected me to just do it for them...

Best part was I was in the middle of starting my second webcomic while balancing this project, and it caused me to delay my own series because of it.

This is an embarrassing I don't know what I was thinking story I created once.
A friend of my sister contacted me once to do some artwork for a website she was trying to put together. She wanted me to draw instructional images on how to properly put on a condom. So right out the gate I had zero interest in drawing this cause my mind automatically thought that I'd have to draw genitalia all day. But, I promised I would help her out so I decided to make this project more fun for me, more interesting. Being a cartoonist at heart I decided to make a fun instructional comic about the subject and my warped, insane brain ended up coming up with a cringey 2 page comic about a young college girl sneaking into her professor bedroom one night on a dare and placing a condom on him while he sleeps. Ugh, smh.
My sister's friend later asked me to do more work for her and I vehemently turned her down, and vowed never to take on projects that I think are dumb ideas again.
