Upload speed that works the BEST?

was thinking about trying daily uploads on tapas and was wondering if anyone had any experience with changes in uploads and what happened? did you get an increase in subscribers or a decrease?

My method right now is to see how long it takes me to finish an upload, take that amount of time and add two days (a buffer for weekends when I don't work), and make that the cycle. This way I naturally create a buffer while also giving myself some leeway incase I can't work some days.

So like my fancomic, which only has linework and some grayscale, that's on like a 5-7 day cycle; whereas another full color comic I have is on a 10ish day cycle. I've only just gotten back to working on them, so I can't say how it will affect my subscriber/like/comment income until 4-6 months down the road.

What matters most is what's sustainable for you. So long as it's consistent, people will come. More often is generally better, but I'd keep an eye to the longest term I'm willing to work on your comic, and pace myself accordingly. Readership will come and go and we have no control over them; all we can do is learn to enjoy the process, imo.

If you already have a pretty large backlog of pages or comic strips (think: stuff you've created over the years but never posted), I think it's fine to try to post every day if that's what you really want. However, if you are trying to make the pages the day of your upload schedule or have a fairly short buffer, you run the risk of overwhelming yourself with work and stress from deadlines. (which shouldn't happen because this process should be fun :3)
I think weekly or biweekly updates work best on this site. just keep in mind how many pages that means in a year and don't overwork yourself. If you know you can only produce one page a week, that's fine, but don't start posting until you have several weeks worths saved up. If you can make, let's say, five pages a week, awesome! but save them for your buffer in case you need to take a break from drawing for whatever reason.

Speaking as a reader, comics that upload every day overwhelm me...

I didn't try to change the schedule but since I have different series with different upload schedules I have noticed that the ones that I upload daily have more subscribers and views in general while the ones that I only update bi-weekly or weekly have less.

I think it depends on your luck vs what you're uploading. The novel I upload almost daily has less views, with just this month spiking to 173. And it's a BL series - just old writing of mine, with super short chapters.

An entirely different writing style, also BL, that I update twice a week, has longer chapters, but less chapters and sits more comfortably just about or higher than the previous story. It spiked to over 300 in June I think due to two binge readers. As you can see, it sits comfortably at 150+ a month while the other series is much more volatile with views.

I think part of it is from people getting sick of seeing the same banner/story daily, to the subscribed people happy to always see it, and to the people who see the other story so little... I'm really not sure. @yansusu's experience with it seems different than mine. And novels in general are likely different from comics, too.

As a reader though, I side with @keii4ii entirely. Daily updates just result in me not reading and waiting to binge it later. Whereas something that updates once a week or once a month is more likely to get my view as soon as it updates since I've been waiting excitedly for it.

To add onto that, I think there's something else to take into consideration: The number of chapters will be different with different upload schedules. Like the series that I update bi-weekly will gain 8-10 chapters a month (and 4-5 chapters for the weekly one) depending on how often the weekday rolls around while the stories that I upload daily will get 30-31 new chapters each month. So even if there was only one person reading it, there'd be a difference of at least 20 views between daily and (bi)-weekly updated-stories. That'll multiply fast if there are more readers.

If we're just looking at how many views there are per month, then even with the same amount of readers between series, the daily uploaded one will naturally have an advantage in terms of numbers. Even if some readers don't read the chapter daily as it comes out but instead binge-read seven chapters once a week or all 30 chapters at the end of the month, there'd still be more chapters read.

That might be different if we looked at it in terms of days but even then the daily-updated series might have an advantage because it turns up more often in the fresh-section and some readers might check that? Honestly, I don't know about that but we'd need a large scale study to figure that out I guess

Mainly I update a page per week in order to preserve other pages I already finished.

This would give the viewers some confirmation and confident that every week I upload one page every Friday in the morning.

once every other day and every two days is the same? also i think most people update once a week or less.

It def depends on the comic and artist.

Personally I like up upload once a day, though I've had to slow down to once every second day or 1 - 2 times a week depending on how bad my arthritis is (been a pretty bad year for flare ups ><)

I don't notice the lack of update consistency creating too much of a difference in my existing readership's reading habits, but it does affect the traffic that new subs and new readers bring in, since well, they don't come as often when updates are slow.
