If my story (not posted here yet) has a rough/violent first chapter, but it's relevant to the story and it's appropriately marked Mature, then it should be fine to post as long as it makes sense in the context of the plot, right?

I know I probably won't get as many viewers because it's marked 'Mature' if it's anything like Wattpad (I'm used to that because that's where I started out) but I want to make sure that it's alright and can still be read.

Remember the point of writing a story if for people to read it. Why write something that limits your audience. Its a little self defeating. There are plenty of ways to write a story and still be for young adults. If it is marked mature, you will not be allowed on the app and only will be read on the website.

I guess it depends if the level of violence is necessary for the story you're telling, like if the goal is to horrify with gore or whatnot then it needs to be explicate, especially if it's a common occurance.
Maybe tone it down if it's not necessary?

My story is an action comic where people get slashed all the time but it's always non lethal or censored in someway so I've been getting away with not tagging it as mature,
and the only chapter I did was for a single panel where I made it uncomfortable on purpose.
So you may be overthinking it.

VIOLENCE? YEAH!!! YEAH!!!
(But you gotta imagine it yourself reading it)

BTW. HERE IS THE NEW EPISODE

ACTION SCIENCE FANTASY HERE!!!

General synopsis: In 2158, global tensions between Arga and Yuropa push the world to the brink of the Third Territorial War. But before conflict can erupt, an apocalyptic event splits the planet in half, wiping out half of humanity, restricting the alive to go and access the resources on the other side of the blinding light. As the survivors rebuild their lives within the safety of Dome cities, monstrous creatures emerge from the chaos, ravaging everything in their path.

Amidst the destruction and uncertainty, a group of soldiers embarks on a desperate mission. Driven by their noble cause to protect and reclaim what is lost, they confront the terrifying truths of their harsh new reality. Racing against time, these brave souls face unimaginable challenges as they fight to safeguard the remnants of humanity and possibly save the entire world from total annihilation.

Yeah as long as you marking mature it should be fine

I understand that a story needs to be read, but these scenes are pretty necessary for the story and its context. It gives charcterization, and the circumstances of the main character's situation. If I were to censor these scenes, it would take away from the story.

Yeah, the opening scene is necessary for the story, though. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have included it. There are also some (mild) sexual themes in it, but it's not a smut story or anything  lol.

Yeah, I understand. You can probably get away with more on a comic, rather than a novel where you have to explicitly describe things in order to give a picture of what's happening in that scene. But yeah, I probably am overthinking it a bit.

Haha, yeah. As long as the violence makes sense.

Also, I will check your stuff out, but isn't there an official promotion thread for those? Wattpad used to do that, so I am assuming the same thing happens here.

Okay, thanks.

Thanks, I am hoping that it comes out either today or tomorrow. Yeah, I marked it mature so that it doesn't cause any issues. I think that's the logical thing to do.

Then by all means put it in. I take it this is a novel, so you can get away with way more than a webcomics ever could. I still wouldn't mark it as "mature". I would say young adult. Mature on Tapas might as well be porn. They will hide it and as most read on their phones, it won't be available on their app so no one will see it. As long as it's not gore for gore's sake, you are within the rules to make it young adult.

Respectfully, I disagree. I write what I want to write. If that happens to be what people want to read, good for them, but I have no intention of altering my story just to make it more comfortable for my readers.

This is fine. You have a hobby. I was talking about being a professional writer. That means you need an audience that will pay for you to write stuff they want to read. There is nothing wrong either way, although most writers want people to read their stuff and be entertained. If it's just for yourself, then I wasn't talking about you.

I didn't realize that the ratings were more lax here. Yes, this is a novel and I am sused to Wattpad's rating system (I am assuming that the system here on Tapas is very different, though). I wasn't sure how far I could go, but my story's not porn, though it has some sexual references/ violence but most of it is a slice-of-life romantic drama. I'm definitely not doing it for gore's sake  As long as it's all part of the plot, right?

Here is a link to their guidelines. With a novel some won't apply. But you can get where they are coming from.

Thanks, there doesn't seem to be anything in there that my story would potentially violate. This clears a lot of things up for me.
