Webtoons versus Tapas

I have had a long time to compare the two websites, and I hope I managed to paint both in a good light while offering some critique of both.

Hopefully there will be something to learn in this video

Which is better Tapas or Webtoon?

I like both them.

WEBTOON's sleek and user friendly. Their audience is massive and they have excellent branding. However I feel like there are much fewer features for indies. Canvas doesn't allow tipping which is disappointing, and you have to have 40,000 monthly page views to earn ad revenue. I occasionally gain subscribers quickly on WEBTOON, but it's unpredictable.

Tapas offers tons of features for indies with ink, ad revenue, and an awesome forum. I feel like it's easier to promote my comic on Tapas internally, vs trying to drive traffic to WEBTOON via 3rd party sites.

I think the reality of the business these days is that if you want to be indie you need to be everywhere.

very well done video!
You made some great points, both sites have their pro's and cons.
Adding a personal opinion on a webtoons pro point; I like that webtoons keeps their featured (premium) comics seperated from the free comics, (originals/canvas)

Webtoons gives me a SYSTEM ERROR no matter which laptop or browser I use to attempt an upload, and the site creators couldn't identify the problem, so...

Would voting for Tapas be biased on my part? Because I was deprived of any real Webtoon experience xD

Webtoons audience hands down, there's just more readers, who also comment/interact more. I like the donate ink option here though, but webtoons has Patreon integrated well. The audience on WT seems to like my stuff more than tapas.

Only one of them has episode scheduling, so uh the choice is a little clear to me because of the timezones out of tune with the US. I'm sure Webtoons has its strengths though, but probably a mirror I'd create later down the line.

On Tapas you can have animated webcomics but Webtoon you can't unless you're a pro, so that's a big plus for Webtoons.

I just post on both.

But, like the points made in the video, I enjoy Tapas more because I’m a creator and it’s easier to use and to keep track of how my works are doing. Also, it has the novel option.
And, i find Tapas to be way less strict about mature works.
Can’t forget this here forum that I enjoy.

I’m a tapas person.

Both have monetization, with Tapas having the feature of allowing ink to be donated, where as Webtoons just links to patreon. The sub counts are completely different on the two sites so it is hard to say what the profits per view are, but Webtoons has made us far more money. Through ads, reward programs, and patreon.
