Webtoons vs Tapastic promoting new series

I just recently posted my series to both Tapastic and Webtoons. And within 3 days there was a huge difference in the amount of views and followers and comment between the two.

Why is Webtoons drastically better at promoting new series than Tapastic. Could other people tell me their experiances or any possible tips or advice?

I like both sites I frequent both often but it seems that Tapastic is not as good as Webtoons when it comes to this issue.

I have pretty much experienced the exact same thing (although I have to say you have gained far more subscribers than I have in that time haha). The only thing I can really think to put it down to is that when I update a new page on webtoons it hangs around near the top of the fresh section far far longer than it does on tapastic. Therefor more people see it, and more people sub!

How much did you promote both series? Did you post on social media that you've started these series on both Tapas and Webtoons or did you just post the series without promoting it?

I kind of got the same as well. Not as much as yours in such a short time but it was quite different. I tend to feel like there's more on this site. Probably wrong but that's the feeling.

There may be a significant difference due in no small part to Webtoons's absolutely asinine, arcane policies for hosting; most creators with experience in hosting sites will know you can't really count on most sites with terms like that. So it may be a case of just having a smaller group that you will stand out in longer. But it also may mean that at some point down the line, you'll find yourself with unwanted attention.

I kinda feel like webtoons probably has more resources in getting more people to just see a series. I mean webtoons is a bit more of a business then tapastic is (if that makes any sense). I feel like a lot of people upload to webtoons in hopes of getting out of the challenge league and end up in an official slots.

SO I feel like a to more people on there just advertise i general to get people on the site. If they become popular enough they get hired, yah know? So that just brings more traffic. While everyone does advertise on tapastic, there isn't that competition going on so I can only assume the advertising isn't as aggressive? In terms of comments, that still applies as well. People on webtoons KNOW if they give you enough support you might make it, so people might be more inclined to comment.

I'm also 99.9% sure most webtoons accounts are connected to LINE (a messaging service that kinda acts like Skype and Facebook) and I think liking or commenting brings up a status update to LINE I think. I only use LINE to chat with a friends so I don't pay attention to statuses.

I'm not sure if that all makes sense with the way I explain it, but thats how I look at it.

Webtoons is very official. I have 2k views on my comic here and 170 subs.
On Webtoons, I have 72k views and 3.3k subs.

It's because Webtoons hires people and there's actually less comics on there I feel so it's easier to deal with competition. Also they have many more committed readers as unlike Tapastic getting featured means you can /only/ post there.

Well, their business model is pretty much base on how they work in S. Korea.

From what I understand, there's two tiers. One tier is the pay tier, it's one that's considered "pro". You get payed based on the number views and how long the reader stays on chapter they're reading. However, the creator can't host the comic anywhere else while it's running on webtoons.

The second tier is just the "amateur" tier. You don't get paid in that tier but it's free hosting.

This. I experienced the same with webtoons and all I can think about is this. I don't advertise on there at all yet views still rake up. I also think my comic appeals to the audience there more than those here on taptastic so that might account for something

After seeing this topic, I decided to do a little experiement with my new series (:Rebirth), I went home and submitted that series to Webtoon (and keep in mind this is my first webcomic ever and also first time I ever posted on Webtoon ;;_;;) roughly 2 hours passed, here is my current stats:
Subscriber: 53 EDIT: 87 subs as of right now 1 more hour later
Views: 158 EDIT: 267 views as of right now 1 more hour later
Comments: 11

And here is my Tap's stats after approximately 4 days:
Subscribers: 33
Views: 304
Comments: 3

I can totally see what you mean there... and I think it's more or less because Webtoon has a bigger community but lesser FRESH comic being posted daily? I know that in a mere hours after update my comic on Tap, it will be pushed down into oblivion in the FRESH section, but on Webtoon, apparently it's lingering around a lot longer.

Side note: I also think due to the high rating my comic has right now on Webtoon (9.63), it has been sitting on top of the top 5 comics by rating board for a while. (But I'm not putting my luck into that rating since people are very fickle.....)

EDIT: I also did not do any advertisement for my Webtoon just yet as oppose to Tapastic LMFAO
EDIT AGAIN CAUSE I JUST REMEMBER: I also think part of the reason why the community on Webtoon is bigger is because of popular series that are only on Webtoon like Noblesse, Tower of God, etc.... I think dem popular series draw a larger community over to the site compare to Tap.

I started posting my comic to Webtoons around end of March I think, and the number of new subs per update was much higher than here at Tapastic. I think partially the reason is how updates are treated in the app version -- the entries in the Discover section are sorted purely by update date, not by popularity. They also have a 'weekly round up' section that cycles every now and then to feature any rising comics.

Tapastic used to have a great new comic discovery tool in the Daily Snack, but now the app seems much more tailored toward the established comics.

Oh wow thank you everyone for your feed back. I actually understand all of what you guys are saying and I would like to thank you for your help.

I do not want to be published as a "Pro" on Webtoons. Mainly since I am working on creating my own Graphic novel company. The rating system on Webtoons I have heard and seen many times is really competitive and can become vile. I do't really pay any attention to the rating system. As for views and followers. I agree with you that Webtoons seems to have a larger fan base and I just released my next update and found that on both Tapastic and Webtoons they stay on top and go down as other series update. On Webtoons I have been able to stay in the first page of views for a few days. On Tapastic thought I was swept way down in a matter of hours.

I like that webtoons allows me to gain followers quickly and I also downloaded the Line app to see if I was able to stay in contact with the followers. The thing i dislike about Webtoons atm is. I feel that I cannot connect with the followers that I do get. There is no forum on the site and you cannot see who actually liked your series. I would like to be able to get more involved with the audience. That is what I like about Tapastic. They show you who liked your series and they let you go to them and thank them personally as well as see what they are up to or what they are making.

The forums here are also great. it allows me to ask questions and get responses from other dedicated artists who have experienced the same issues.

As of right now I did not advertise Webtoons much but I advertised Tapastic quite a bit. Since it cost me more to advertise for Tapastic and I was getting about 14x the views and followers on Webtoons I switched over to only advertising Webtoons.

To finish this long update I would say that Webtoons is good for getting immediate results and is good to promote right away but in the long run I feel I will be more successful with Tapstic and feel more connected with the audience.

I haven't thought of Webtoon as a place to host but I think I'm gonna give it a go for Fate, as I want to promote it as best I can and maybe get a few more peeps on my patreon.
As long as I go with Free hosting I am allowed to post Fate in other places? Right...?

I believe it has to do with the way comics are organized. The initial organization on webtoom is by date added, and it gives each comic more of an equal shine in the light as opposed to tapastic which on the website greets you with the popular page instead of the fresh page.

Probably also has something to do with Tapastic being worse on Mobile and webtoons community being over 100x the size.

I love tapastic and everything they stand for, but webtoons knows exactly what they are doing and what they want to do. I don't feel like Tapastic is there yet.

The lack of community at Webtoons seems to be by design. It's simply exists to publish popular Naver webtoons in English plus it offers English language webcomics.

It doesn't mean there isn't a fandom for those comics. In Korea, the fans simply go to a Naver hosted net cafe (forum), the address is often at the end of the webtoon chapter and comment there sometimes and the creator replies to them. However, LINE webtoons doesn't seem to have that option. You pretty have to figure how to go round to building community for your comic.

The lack of PR at LINE webtoons is really odd. Spottoon is another sire that also hosts Korean webtoons in English but they do have someone that answers reader questions.
