I usually only manage to draw 3 pages every week so I've been updating my webcomic every week with only 3 pages. However, some of my readers commented that they are confused about what is going on. Most of this confusion stems from the mystery that I intentionally put. But I feel like it'll be beneficial for the story if I update after I've finished a chapter so every 3 weeks or so (12 pages). But I'm afraid if I do that it'll make my readers lose their interest since I'm not updating weekly. (How nice would it be if I can draw faster ╥﹏╥) What do you think?

You can draw 3 pages a week of that quality, and you wanna draw more ??
Your readers are spoiled. They should be patient, and trust you to tell the story.

Hey I'm also only updating three pages a week cause that's all I have the time to do. I post one page in scroll format on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. It's going well so far cause I make sure each page is a solid story segment that keeps the plot moving forward.

As long as you know your story well and tell it well, in the end when you've finished it, those reading will understand what's going on cause they'll get an uninterrupted flow. Those that keep up with it while its updating will have a different experience and often readers will forget details from previous updates. Know that if you have mystery in the story, of course they'll be confused--until the reveal. Trust the story you're telling.

Also I make sure to add any relevant (but not important to the plot) information in my author's note so I can have a dialogue with my readers.

I agree with @snowy and @SeraphicMayin

To add to the matter:

Help them, not in the story, in their comment. Being a webcomic, days pass between updates and people forgets no matter how usually you post, things happen in their lifes! But some won't have it in them to go back and read again in that moment, so they keep going and get more confused.

Ask them and they probably won't be able to pin-point what's confusing them exactly.

There you enter with a wild summary of the story till that point: "This is what's been going on" and puff, problem solved, they have an "Oooh!" moment, thank your help and you can keep going with your story as it is.

This is not an update problem, it's something you can't control, which is stuff happening in people's life.

Isn't that a bit babying though? I always struggle with not giving too much information and accidentally making my readers feel that I'm condescending and hand holding.

Thank you. My readers never complain about update length, this is just me wanting to make more because I feel like my current pace is too slow for my taste.

Unless this is your main job, and you have a room full of assistants, your current pace is pretty damn fast.

Seconding @snowy 3 updates a week at that quality is fantastic. With work and life I can only manage biweekly 1 page at the moment. 3 pages a week would be nearly 35 hours of work a week for me on the comic! That's full time job level stuff lol Take your time, don't rush it. YOu have good work

It depends on each persons view

For me babying would be trying to post more despite you can't at this moment. Not only babying them, because they would think "If I compain, author posts more", but also yourself, because you're using those complains as an excuse to work more, even when you know right now you're already producing to the best of your abilities.

Maybe in the future you can post more, when you get more practice and the process of making a page takes you less time, but THAT also takes time to achieve.

Also, replying with a summary improvised in that very moment is a great practice to learn to give just the info you have to, in the right tone and without hand holding anyone. Being a comment, you can write and erase as much as you need before posting it. Challenging and less unhealthy than get onto draw more pages, no?

Thats honestly alot for weekly updates, I think maybe you should slow down a bit so you can take personal days off. I know how bumming it is when a creator spews out updates left and right and then a while later they get too tired and have to take a hiatus. You should slow down and tell your readers why the sudden change, i'm sure they'll understand : D
