āThe Princeā is a controversial political dissertation written in the 16th century by a Italian diplomat named Niccolò Machiavelli who wrote a āguideā for literal princes and autocratic leaders that lay down political roadmaps of how to retain power over the masses through whatever is necessary. It discusses topics of how to maintain and expand control of power of states, terrorities and the general public, in which the end result can justify the means. Heās credited with the quote: āIt is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot have both.ā
āThe Fire Next Timeā by James Baldwin was written during the civil rights movement in 1963 and are composed of 2 essays regarding his experiences of racial segregation in American History and how the relations of race relations to religion teachings of Christianity and Islamic culture shaped Harlem within the Black community at the time.
Ideas from both books are still relevant today and its blows my mind how much, and ironically, how little have changed in society.
These descriptions do not give the books justice and if these topics interest you, I highly recommend them for a read.
